Really, really like this card. Some good exciting fights lower on the bill, and three very good top fights.

Surprised they didn't move things around to get Palhares v Miller on the main card or Spike.

It's probaly the 4th or 5th best fight on the card, so its a bit frusterating. This last weekend Hamill/Gustavson was the 3rd or 4th best fight, but didn't make the main card. Benevidez/Wineland is going to be good this weekend too, but I don't even think they would air it ahead of Dollaway/Hamman.

I know injuries are part of it, but its some odd scheduling.

Well, they have to give people a reason to watch the free card on Spike too. If they hadn't aired the Gustafsson/Hamill fight, I probably would have skipped the prelim card entirely and watched them online later in the week.

Plus, Nedkov vs. Cane should be a fun match, which I think will be the opening fight for the main card.

I don't think that really plays in to it. They make far more money from PPV than they do a one hour Spike prelim special--in fact they even air the fights commercial free on ION when Spike doesn't want them. It's all about the PPV. What often happens is a main card fight gets hampered by an injury to a noteworthy fighter, but the UFC keeps it's promises to the other fighter and keeps them on the main card, even if the new opponent is a lot less noteworthy.

We're a couple weeks from the event, so I don't feel so bad to take the thread on a bit of a tangent. I'm curious, would you rather see Anderson keep fighting at 185 until he retires, or would you prefer him to move to 205 permanently? Reason I ask is I look at this card, and you have arguably the "GOAT" as the headline fight, and I just don't have much interest in it. Silva's -450 in this fight, and I honestly think it should be even more than that. I just feel like it's such a waste to put this guy in fights that really aren't all that competitive. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Sonnen get a rematch, but the reality is he had his chance, and he blew it. I would be FAR more interested in seeing Anderson have his last few fights against the likes of Rampage, Evans, Shogun, Jones, etc.

Would Palhares/Miller or Hamill/Gustafsson really get more PPV buys?

If Jones can prove to be a good champion over the next year or two, I must see Anderson face him. Until then I'd prefer to see Silva stay at 185 until he loses. I believe that the dominant champion should be allowed to continue his run until he is no longer dominant. I know Silva is already 36 but the damage he's taken is absolutely minimal, so he should be able to keep this dominance up for a while yet. I wouldn't mind seeing him face Belfort again after Vitor builds himself back up, or face Sonnen again...those are good fights.

I really like this card by the way, and I agree that Palhares/Miller should at least be shown on TV. Good thing they use Facebook for fights now though.

As a one-off, likely not. But it seems fairly obvious you would want your best/relevant/most exciting fights on the main card or on Spike.

It benefits your newer fans to have a deeper card, as the depth is one of the advantages the UFC has over sports like boxing. The hardcore fans will also want to see the guys who are the best/most relevant. It also rewards the fighters who deserve to be on TV. I wonder if maybe Palhares is getting a bit of punishment for his stupid antics against Nate awhile back.

It just seems like common sense to me, you have your 7 televised spots and you probably want your 7 best fights there in some order. Get a couple of exciting fights on Spike mixed in with some TUF guys to get the fans wanting to buy the PPV and go from there.

Anyways, its not a big deal and the Facebook thing certainly helps. There may be logical reasons for all of these recent ones (Hamill late replacement/sponsors in place, Benevidez in no-mans land in his division, Palhares punished for being an idiot)

Palhares has to get Miller down to win.

I don't see Palhares getting Miller down.

Miller should just put oil on his leg and KO Palhares while he's confused

Silva is about as close to a sure bet as you can get in MMA. Okami has very little to offer

Silva's last several fights were intriguing, but Okami, blah.

Yeah, as much as I want Okami to win, I can't see it happening. He's a good wrestler and is strong, but he doesn't have the tenacity of Sonnen and I can't see him getting right in Silva's face the way that Chael did. I see him getting lulled into Anderson's fight and trying to point-strike with his improved boxing, and eventually getting KO'd.

Also, I'm sure Anderson is preparing to get rushed the same way he did against Chael, so even if he does employ the same strategy it won't necessarily be effective.

Anderson's ribs should also be 100% in this fight so even if Okami does rush him, it probably won't result in an easy takedown. Okami will really have to work to get him down.
