I'm telling you, the details are nice, but minute when compared to the fact that our team is three votes/voting sessions away from being secure until I'm 52.

No more wondering if we'll have a team. Minimized losses. 28 more years of Blue Jackets hockey.

(I'm about to turn 24.)

From what I understand from this deal, the tax money taken from the casino will be 1/3 of it until the cost of purchasing the arena is paid off. After that all money goes to the city, and county.

Short term 1/3 of the tax money to the arena sounds like a bad deal, but in the long term the Jackets will generate far more tax money than what will be used to purchase the arena.

Ha, I will be 83, so the question is will the Jackets win the Cup by then or will I remember what a Blue Jacket is by then

I hope that one of my teams win it all before I die.

Yeah, I understand. I am just speaking from the point of view of someone who would come from out of town. It would nice to be able to park and walk to all of these places.

My buddy Lori Schmidt sent this to me tonight...

Something you may want to share with your friends on HF Boards: The folks voting on the Nationwide proposal were consulted in putting the proposal together. So while that's no guarantee that this gets passed, it would certainly seem to put the odds in its favor.

With any luck, a shortage in the bottom line would cause the county to sit up and say, "Hey, wait a minute. WHY is Value City Arena allowed to host these events again? I thought they weren't allowed to as a condition of building that venue in the first place..."

Tough question. On the one hand, if they don't, the county's back to competing with tOSU for events, and that might not end well. OTOH, that also means that the county would also take in any ticket revenues for other events - and suddenly, hey, look, here's another source of public funds. How 'bout that.

Speaking as a local who voted against the casino proposals each and every time, I'd say it's more about being petulant and petty. It's not very noble to be that way, but I approve all the same.

It's kind of hard for me to be happy about this offseason. I mean, it also started with Atlanta getting screwed over, and has continued with the loss of so many people...

Kind of sucks that when we do have a good offseason, there has to be plenty of hellish news to offset it.

...I suppose there is that. As much as I genuinely and unapologetically love tOSU, it's not like they need the help.

It was reported by my buddy Lori Schmidt today that the CBJ-OSU management agreement would continue for another 15 years.

I'd love to see that issue dealt with, but hope it doesn't take a shortfall to bring it to light.

I know it's not as sexy a headline, but why not "Saving Jobs In Columbus" instead of "Saving the Blue Jackets"?

I was listening to the The common man and the Torg last night talk about this deal.

Let me just say say this about their takes....

I had to turn those nimrods off because I couldn't take my wife screaming at the radio anymore. I am now forbidden to listen to them when she is in the car. Way to attract listeners, guys.

Their NBA to Columbus thing to "ease the financial" pressure was amusing (another perm tenant). That's exactly what the Jackets want. Another winter team to schedule around while fighting for ticket revenue with them.

That's kind of surprising. Both Ricordatti and Torg were talking about being excited for the season on Tuesday and were pro-Jackets.

It would take me to 68. I hope to live past that, but I'll still be thrilled with getting to that age without worrying that every season will be the last in Columbus.

Their "take" that Fire talked about might not have had anything to do with being pro-Jackets or not.

The little bit I heard before I turned it off wasn't against the proposed deal, other than cm stating he would still rather the casino money go to "school, fire, police, and teachers" like it was "supposed to be". Like all that money was going to go to those guys anyway. But cm followed up stating that he was ok with it.

When they started talking about the NBA and how the common fan wouldn't come to see the more unknown player but that they would come to see Kobe (and whoever else he mentioned), that's when I turned them off. CM turned it into a NBA > NHL discussion again. That guy does nothing for me and listening to him talk about hockey at all is like watching a monkey try and hump a football. I don't even like his College football talk and that's supposed to be his big contribution.

ANYTHING to keep the Jackets in Central Ohio, where they belong. I know people all over in Seattle who are cringing at the thought that they might not get an NHL team ... TAKE THAT YOU JERKS!

I believe it was Torg, that was a little fairer about it, but all they kept harping on was how Columbus needs that money to help their failing schools, and how voters would not be able to vote on where the money goes.

Truth be known, the city can talk about the money going to police, fire, and schools, but the money will go into the general fund, and will be spent where they want to spend it. It is easy to say that some of the money will go to police and fire since about 80% of the general fund budget goes to public safety.

I see this as a win-win deal. They will spend some "found money" tax revenue from the casino, to keep an entity in town that generates, as well as pays, huge sums of revenue to the city, county, and state. Not to mention the jobs created in the arena district, and the taxes paid by those employed people.

It is tremendously short-sighted to not like this deal, as no ones taxes will be raised, and no ones tax dollars will be used except the casino's.

Reading the hillbillies comments on the dispatch page gets my blood boiling. I couldn't help it, and I threw in my $.02, but I cannot go back to that page because I'll just get p!ss3d. Regardless I am still thrilled about the proposition. They even used my quote in the story with the "fans give deal two-thumbs up" headline! cool :-)

I can't read the comments section in the dispatch on any Blue Jackets article and there's no way I'm touching it on this one.

There's no sense in getting aggravated over people who have no idea what they're writing about. Just knowing they're out there is annoying enough for me. I don't need to see their drivel expressed in words. I actually made the mistake of listening to the 2 or 3 proponent callers on WOSU today and that was more than enough to get me going. Not one demonstrated an understanding of the full issue or had the perspective to adequately comment on the issue, but that's public radio for ya.

I think it's being made more complicated than it needs to be and I don't see how the outcome is anything less than positive for the city. Plus, I love the idea of going through a season without worrying about the team's future. The last 4-4.5 years I've been concerned with how every small crowd or every blowout loss would affect the team's future. It'll be nice not to worry anymore and just enjoy being a fan of a hockey team.

I know right.. Winner winner chicken dinner!! They were going to be a huge media train wreck if the arena named after them brought down the financial viability of the team. They get tons of free advertising. Now they will have a 30% stake.

I like this angle and had predicted something like this occurring when John Mac past away.

The scary thing is, they all probably vote, drive, maybe work (possibly as someone's boss) and of course wear Woody baseball caps and sweater vests.
