If Backstrom can keep playing the way he is now, not many. At this rate he'll be lucky to play 15 games. I don't expect Backstrom to keep up this level of play all year though so unless Backstrom gets injured I'd expect Harding to play between 20-25 games.

Who's spot do you think Lundin takes when he returns? I would assume we send Falk down to make room for him but which of the 6 defensemen does he replace? I believe that Stoner has earned his right to stay so it's between Scandy and Spurgy. In all likelihood it'll be Scandy but didn't GMCF say that he doesn't want guys like Scandella playing the role of benchwarmer and that he'd rather have them play full-time in Houston?

This is pretty interesting and encouraging read, no free sunday for the team, they didn't deserve one.

Scandella is back to Houston when Lundin gets here. Don't get me wrong, I think he's full of potential, but he's clearly outmatched at the NHL level right now. He might be playing better than some of our other D, but he needs the time in Houston still. Also, he's one of two guys who doesn't have to pass through waivers to go back to the AHL.

IMO, i hope they send Spurgeon so Scandella can play in our top four while Zanon and Stoner are our third pairing. I dont think that Scandella as a lot to learn in the AHL than the NHL. It may take some time for him, but its the best opnion, eventually he is going to play consistent and hopefully get better.

Holy crap! Yeo sounds like a coach who knows what he is doing!!! He can actually analyze the weak points of the Wild in a game, and then turn around the NEXT DAY and have them work on what they did poorly!

Haha. Sorry, but it's funny how in two years we never read a post about Richards like that. Just a bunch of quotes about him getting the guys motivated and teaching them how too vaguely play "up-tempo" by somehow making them physically skate faster through Richard's talk alone.

Wouldn't mind Zanon getting shipped. Kind of like Stoner and Spurgeon as the bottom pairing. And Schultz, Scandella, Zidlicky, and Lundin could be a decent top-4 by the end of the season.

I truly hope this is the case, but all 4 of these players would need to consistently stay healthy for that to happen. Zidlicky is who I am most concerned about of those 4 as I wince every time he tries to throw a hit; expecting him to bust up his shoulder again.

I think Zanon will go on the IR as soon as Lundin is ready. Once Zanon is back, that's when the decision will have to be made.

How about sending back Falk when Lundin is ready unless someone is on the IR?

I don't see the point in sending Falk down. He's just a depth guy, and I don't think the team has much more expectations of him than that. Sending Falk down just means one of the other defensemen is sitting in the press box, and I don't see how that helps the team.

not for much longer, if they don't learn how to play the game soon.

This, if we play the same way against Detroit for most of the season we might win the Yakupov sweepstakes

But if we play like we did against Columbus we might win the Stanley Cup?

I'm not worried about the shots. I am a little concerned about 2.20 GF/G (23rd in the league). Also, at least as of this morning, the Wild are 27th in SF/G, not 28th.

The big part of being outshot last year that people are ignoring is this improvement:

SA/G 30.4 (15th, '11-'12)
SA/G 32.0 (6th, '10-'11)

We've improved by 9 spots so far in this young season. Also, the Wild are in the top third in goals against per game, a tie with Dallas for ninth least.

Won't really bear out until 20-25 games into the season as teams can start out hot or cold, but at least the Wild aren't falling behind the pack early. Right in the middle.

I think your team names got jumbled. Minnesota and Phoenix are switched as well as Colorado and Detroit. There could be more, but that's all that jumped out at me.

Good call man, fixed it. Excel is a pain in the ass setting them up. I'll keep this file though for future use (helpful down the stretch).

Very nice Jarick. It was always interesting to see how we were doing PPG-wise last year so thanks for putting that together again this year.

Possible trading partners for the Wild so far this year:

Columbus - They have a goalie emergency similar to what the Islanders had last year, which resulted in them signing a former college player to an emergency 1 day contract and trading for Al Montoya. Our prospect depth in goal is getting excessive. Between Kuemper being sent to the ECHL, Gustafsson looking great in Sweden, a blue chip prospect and a physically ready backup in Houston, and the new guy at Harvard, it seems the Wild could actually upgrade another position without sacrificing much in trade.

St. Louis - Panic mode seems to be setting in amongst some fans (although probably not the front office) and they're making threads trying to sell off good pieces. The Wild might be interested in asking about T.J. Oshie [Terhaar]a good Warroad, MN boy[/Terhaar]. He's 24, has 1 year on his contract (then RFA) and would look fantastic on that second line until Granlund arrives. He'd also allow us some flexibility (if re-signed) to start Granlund at wing next season instead of requiring him to make the jump to center immediately.

Toronto - With the play of Gardiner, they have a surplus of NHL capable D-men, especially offensively minded ones. I'm not sure what the Wild could spare that Toronto would want though.
