2-way and it is 650k in the NHL. A great price for the Preds.

Good signing. Adds depth to our blueline. Would've preferred Hannan, but I'll take Hillen for now...

Predictable veteran signing for NSH's blueline. Poile obviously didn't want to pay Hannan's asking price.

Is this the reason Lebda was bought out?

I'm not too sure about the Preds defense but I'd say he is just outside of your top 6 and will fill in if there are injuries, same as he did for the Isles last year. Hillen is a great puck rusher due to his speed and a good pincher as well but gets physically over matched.

Solid signing. He'll probably start the year in Nashville but be sent down after Bouillon is healthy.

Jack Hillen tries hard but at his best is a 6-7 NHL D-man. Very Good Skater who lacks size and strength.

Hillen is a very similar player to Lebda but he's better. The Preds needed someone. I think there were better options but those likely came with a higher price tag so they had to settle for Hillen.

very solid depth signing. No problems with this whatsoever for this price.

He'll be a good depth guy to have around. Can slot in nicely to the 6/7 role or be an AHL call up.

I feel he put up decent numbers with the NYI in the last while. Nashville will be good for him, at that price especially.

I think that's oversimplifying things. The only similarities the two have are their size (lack of size) and their skating ability. Hillen's got way more actual ability than Lebda, and his offensive awareness and IQ is superior to Lebda.

I think as long as Hillen's insulated, either by being paired with a good defensive defenseman, or by matching his pairing only against the opposition's third or fourth lines, he can be an asset to a club. Lebda, even when he gets favorable match ups, is still a disaster in waiting.

I'm surprised it's to so long for someone to sign him.

But, seeing as it's a 2-way deal, he was probably holding out for a 1-way.

Definitely true, Hillen was at his best playing with Martinek and then last year with Jurcina.

Nice player who might be one of the better skaters in the league. Undersized but some untapped potential in my opinion.

Was really improving and saw possible potential as a 3/4 guy before getting creamed in face by slapshot. Showed some guts coming back as early as he did. BAD injury.

The Preds might have gotten lucky here. I wish him luck...

Nice signing - insurance and competition for Josi/Ellis/Elkhom for the Preds bottom pairing/spare D-man spot.

Hillen is above average as a rushing defenseman, but he clearly gets overmatched in front of the goal and behind the boards. Pair him with a bruising defenseman and the Preds will be very happy with their return

You're essentially describing Cody Franson's role with the Preds last year. Sheltered, used in strict offensive role, low minutes.
