I am starting to wonder whether it would have been smarter to keep Pouliot instead of Andrei.
Pros:
1. Save about 2 million in cap space
2. Could have gotten a 2nd rounder for Andrei (better asset management)
3. AK is a UFA at end of year, probably will lose him for nothing
4. Pouliot speaks french
5. Pouliot can fight
Cons:
I can't think of any since I find their talent level the same, and they are both inconsistent.

Akost can skate, and rarely falls down, pouliot not so much...a key to staying in the league...
Way too early to talk along these lines...you can make a case for both players...not sure what the french speaking thing has to do with anything, careful on this board with that stuff...

Should have kept Pouliot instead of Cammalleri:
1- Save about 4mil$ in cap space
2- Could have gotted a 1st rounder for Cammalleri (better asset management)
3- Cammalleri is always injured ( misses like 20 games per season )
4- Pouliot speaks french
5- Pouliot can fight
Your arguments are stupid...
Lets see here:
1- Pouliot never had a season over 30 points, and A.K for the last 4, has had more than 30 ( even the one when he miseed like 23 games )
2- Andrei always has 20 goals or more ( except when he missed 23 games, he had 15 ), Pouliot never
3- Pouliot has 2 points in 22 games in the playoffs. A.K has 19 in 41.
4- A.K always leads in the hit in the team, not Pouliot.

Where you went wrong is the cons. Kostitsyn is a vastly superior player. Kostitsyn is a top-six forward that can form a good tough minute line with other good players. For a scoring forward his defensive game is average to above average and his physical game is above average to good. He's not a star but he's a solid piece of the puzzle. He's a good all round player 5 on 5 and pretty good on the power play. He also can compliment better players on a good line or lead weaker players on a lesser line.
Pouliot on the other hand can produce offense but is a total defensive liability that has to be carried by both his linemates in the defensive zone and on transition. He's good at generating offense for himself but his linemates production does not improve with his presence.
In short, Pouliot is no where near the player Kostitsyn is.
Pros:
1. Save about 2 million in cap space Desharnais-Eller-Kostitsyn, is a much better third line then: Desharnais-Eller-Pouliot.
2. Could have gotten a 2nd rounder for Andrei (better asset management) You can still get that by trade deadline, if management really wants to ship him out.
3. AK is a UFA at end of year, probably will lose him for nothing See point #2.
4. Pouliot speaks french Kostitsyn is still a better player. Speaking the native language of this province doesn't make you better.
5. Pouliot can fight No he can't. Beating on Wade Redden and knocking out Krejci doesn't scream fighter. Moen-Betts-White will handle that, your third line needs to concentrate on shutting down opposition, which Kostitsyn does a much better job.
You want cons?
1. Production goes down.
2. Third line isn't as good with Pouliot.
3. Hitting goes down; Kostitsyn hits, Pouliot does not.
4. The rate of tripping over the blue line drastically goes up.
5. You're choosing a healthy scratch from Boston over someone that can play in the top 6 or a defensive third line winger role.

Your 5 Pros are weak!
We don't need the cap space.
AK gotten us a 2nd rounder, you know this?
If AK has a decent year and Habs feel they may lose him, they will get a decent return at the deadline over a trade in the summer that just past.
Pouliot speaking French has no Pro or added bonus to the success of the team.
Pouliot can fight, really? Who the Krejci's of the NHL???
Their talent levels are way different. AK has a great shot, can make his own space and plays the physical game...Pouliot did none of that, and did that very consistently.
Pouliot was a healthy scratch already for Boston, says a lot about him and his career.
AK is the better player in every element of the game except maybe shootouts. Pouliot can't even skate properly after 6 years in the league. Even with his inconsistency AK would be a top 6 player on a lot of teams in the league, Pouliot is going to be out of the league soon.
But he does speak better French AND English, I'll give you that.
who cares if he speaks french or not. Would you rather win or have a ****** all french team. I am not saying AK will make us win, I am just saying it shouldn't even be an issue. The french keep saying, "Get some french player get some french players" even though i we do, we will not have the best team possible. So stop complaining. I hate AK, but good god I would rather him than Pouliot
I'm actually hoping AK is signed to an extension at a reasonable cap hit. He's an good complimentary player that can play anywhere in top 9. For 3-3.5 mil a year, i'd easily sign him 3-4 years more.
Andreas Kostityn for Shea Weber! Sergei have been so good in Preadotors that I heard they would give us everything for th other one too! Trust me i know someone who's brother works in Nashville and that's the word around town.
