I don't know if it's been mentioned but Valentenko was put on waivers. Do we want to make up for the trade? We'd have to keep him up with the team though right?

Fortunus (DAL) and Valentenko (NYR)

Not saying that the Gomez deal is slowly tipping our side but wouldn't it be juicy to pick Valentenko back in the organization - even if he flies back to the KHL. It would basically come down to Gomez for McDonagh. Pyatt and Higgins just rub each other out of the equation.

Fortunus is a local boy (Longueuil), good media move.

I agree because it's mentalities like that which allow racism to perpetuate. We can't talk about racism because according to most on an internet forum racism is no longer an issue these days

However I do feel it's been blown out of proportion and the media people spreading information of this horrible act are just doing so to make money get hits etc. It didn't need to be made into as big a story as it was made into, but I'm by no means saying it shouldn't be discussed and that we should just pretend like it doesn't exist.

Same goes for any anti-PK racism you hear about or see. People pretend like it doesn't exist, like race couldn't play a part in the reasons behind so many people being haters, then you go on youtube and read the comments in a non-modded site and you begin to realize just how many people out there still are racist.

It's like some people here have never been to the south or left their own living room

What a loser !
Since the incident happened I've been thinking the same thing. Now and then when I've been to games (upper bowl mainly) they've had people searching you. Don't recall seeing the pat downs on the lower bowl mind you or even every time I've been to a game but it happens now and then. Imagine you're the dumbass who gets caught with a baggy holding a banana peel? What kind of dirt bag does that honestly?

Shanahan and Schneider explaining boarding and hits to the head penalties...

Pretty clear that Shanahan is going to be miles more consistent than Campbell ever was, and is taking his new job extremely seriously. Also pretty clear Chara would be suspended for the MaxPac hit.

Here's the video that went out to every single NHL player and coach:
http://podcasts.nhl.com/ops/2011_Player_Safety_DVD.mp4

He also will be putting out a video explanation of every suspension he makes. Here's one for his recent suspension of Shelley:
http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/con...d=35&id=124282

He also has created a twitter account @NHLShanahan where he will keep fans up to date.

Who else here is excited to finally have someone capable looking over player safety?

I dig the video route. Very transparent and explicit about why suspensions are handed out. Nice work.

I'm happy with what they're doing up to now, but I'm not sure I dig the changes to rule 48. Delivering a hit which results in a guy being taken out on a stretcher or laying down motionless on the ice for a while, as happens often for hits to the head, should be a five minute penalty, not just two minutes.

I agree regarding Simmonds. You could really tell he held back but with PK he seemed like the type of person to not take that type of thing too seriously.

Unfortunately you can't really help what a few people (a minority of folks) do at times. There's only so much security you can have, etc. Subban to me sounded pretty honest in the interview. That he really felt they made a bigger story out of it than was necessary. There were already morons on facebook commenting on the story saying stuff like "see? this is why I don't watch hockey and hockey will never be a serious sport in the USA". People were actually agreeing with the person

I ended up saying basically what PK said in more words. A few people agreed that it was stupid to make a comment like that but plenty of people actually agreed. As if Soccer with all of the racism that happens in it is losing fans over it let alone Hockey where this type of stuff is far more rare.

Alain Vigneault called lapierre as laperierre and horton as norton after SJ-VAN game. Lapierre's own coach can't even say his name.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHhahahahahaha I saw that interview! He might've became alcoholic after last year's Game 7 loss.

If there's one player on waivers who I couldn't mind picking up for the bottom 6/7th forward is Michal Repik. Dudes got skill.

I guess Vigneault was dreaming about having a guy like Ian laperrière instead of Lapierre...

Yeah he really doesn't want to play in the CHL this year.

Great call once again. Well deserved.

Gotta love what Shanahan is doing so far.
