Sorry you don't know anything about me ..how long i have been around, what i do for a living, if i work in the Ohl or have , you just don't like my posts. Which is your prerogative .
Anyone who peruses the Hounds roster and thinks they will not make the playoffs is certainly not a credible source ..i read some ludic rous ohl predictions in the hockey news and other publications..they are good at picking stacked teams..not speculating on other teams..
p.s. in case anyone hasn't noticed we are sendin 11 players to NHL camps someone up there likes us
What Brock meant was the Soo on offence just won't scare many teams. Cousins will draw big time coverage every 5 on 5 shift with some 20 year old dude riding him all the time. Fritsche is helpful but other than that, well frankly they won't be sending shivers down the spines of many teams. A few teams will though like veteran Plymouth & Saginaw....and the duo in Sarnia. I didn't pick the Soo high also because they don't have much play-making firepower to carry the load. Often the difference between a 7th place team and fifth is skilled guys up front, they win those 4-3 games with quick strikes and steal 5 to 7 wins a year in games they shouldn't have won.
Cousins closer to 100 points ? I will believe it when I see it with the coverage he will face this year.
When I made my original prediction..I had the Soo 7th. After the Cat deal I kept them in the 7 slot..but I gotta think Brock may not be far off in saying the Soo could very well finish out of the playoffs.

Well i have been watching junior hockey since i sobering up (1980) if they miss the playoffs it won't get me drunk again..but that prediction looking at this team is the funniest one i have ever heard in 31 years..i honestly find it hilarious

The glasses your view your home town team with are always a little rosier than those looking in from the outside.
I see the Soo as a 6th or 7th seed...but a few hiccups or a slow start could put them in 9th quite easily. I think that is the reality of Junior hockey...nothing is a lock.
Well not sure if this is allowed on these posts??But if it isn't please forgive me..i am willing to donate 100 dollars to charity (My favorites being homeless people, addicts and similar) if they don't ..is anyone as sure they won't make the playoffs??
Where i come from a man is only as good as his word by the way

You should be happy I'm picking the Soo to finish in the lower 1/2 of the Conference...I picked Owen Sound to lose in the 2nd round of last years playoffs.

Picking them to make playoffs is easy since they have many weak teams around them.
If you want to get real brave with your coin then pick them to finish where they likely will not.....4 or 5....you see a 7 or 8 spot in rebuilding west is easy so just give that 100 bucks to the Sally if they hit either 7 or 8. If they land in any of the top 4 spots I will make a donation to your Sally up there and I feel my money is pretty safe. What I mean is not giving it to the Soo Sally but instead buying bags of toys again this year for Western Fair toy days in London.
A rebuilding West? Thats funny considering you state its easy to predict they will make the playoffs, but also people say they wont cause the West is too good? Saginaw, Plymouth, London, Sarnia are all the favorites to be in the top 4, Kitchener is always competitive, and Windsor although losing a ton of players, still has talent. Owen Sound has the cat... doesnt look like a bad conference to me. When the regular season starts and we have all 11 players returned from NHL camps, people will see this team has potential to scare people. I will also guarantee Cousins scores more points then Catenacci. Ask fans from the Soo, and most will tell you Catenacci may have been a better all around player, but Cousins got a fraction of the ice time he did, and has always showed he is the better offensive and team player.

How about they finish ahead of London and i challenge anyone from Windsor for the same donation..
I have had the same questions about their offense as Brock even before they traded Cat. Other than Cousins and Fritsch they don't have anyone that has shown up to now that they can produce on a consistent basis. Guys like Broll, Findlay, Alderson, Morbeck and Durocher are going to be relied on to add that secondary scoring. Odds are only one or two of them will have break out seasons this year at best.
Murray improved a lot as the season went on last year. I think he's ready to take more of the starters load this year, they just have to do a better job of limiting the other teams scoring chances whether it's Murray or Perugini in net.
The hiring of Stapelton should improve their special teams which cost them more than a few games last year.
For what it's worth I haven't been to any scrimmages or the Red and White game so I haven't been able to see any of the new players this year but I think the Hounds will make the playoffs. No higher than 6th and most likely battling for 7th or 8th.

This thread is quite good. I have to agree with Brock, I don't see it with the Sault. Just because you have nhl draft picks on your roster doesn't ensure success.
Obviously I'd be very happy for the Hounds to prove me wrong, I just think they will be in tough with the division they are in.
Sarnia and Plymouth should be battling for 1st all season long. So that leaves the Hounds battling with Saginaw and Windsor for 3rd thru 5th. I don't think there will be a whole lot of points separating the three teams. Things could change as the season progresses and teams decide whether they will be buyers or sellers but at this point I just don't think they have the offense to hang with the top teams.
My prediction:
Sarnia
London
Plymouth
Saginaw
Kitchener
Soo
Owen Sound
Windsor
Erie
Guelph

Guess you and Brock know more then the NHL staff and scouts

1997/1998 Windsor Spitfires, 7 NHL draft picks on the squad many predictions had them contending for an OHL title they finished with a 19-39-5-3 record. I like how you take it personal if somebody doesn't think the Sault will be as good as you thought. Last year you were quite vocal that the Sault would turn the tables on Windsor because they lost all those guys. How did you feel after this game?
I thought this was a 2012 predictions thread, not a 2008 memory lane thread. You guys beat us, congrats. Why dont we keep it to the topic, that being that the Soo is a playoff team, without a doubt.

I'm no taking it personally many people predicted Windsor would compete for a title wth 7 NHL picks..we have 11 going to NHl camps sometimes i wonder where you get your logic..??? You really don't think we have a chance...that to me is funny..
so it goes to show you that experts or so called experts really don't know much..
Nothing wll change my opinion unless they do what Windsor did in 97-98
The more people post i see they are just not willing to say what they fear..the Soo really could do damn good this year and boy would that bother a lot of people ..even some from the Soo

He was making a point. Nothing more, nothing less.
dogs, you do seem to take a lot personally. Most people would laugh it off, but you seem to be right there, getting defensive with every person that says the Sault won't be a top contender. Frankly, I hope the Sault does well this year. I don't see it happening, but eh, I'm no expert
Count me among those who think the Sault will be missing the playoffs. They might have a plethora of NHL picks but there's too many teams around with really good NHL picks with a much better track record of getting that level of play out of them. Who in the west are they better than? Keep hoping you're better than Windsor, I don't see it after the Cat trade. You aren't better than Sarnia, Owen Sound, London, Plymouth, Saginaw, Kitchener, or Erie. You might be better than Guelph, but even that's debatable.

You are funny...i really can't take a post like that seriously.. good thing is you won't have to long to wait to see how good we are Sept 30
nice try tho gonna be a lot of crow for supper this year

Saska I'll bet they end up within 5 points of each other at 88...remember that.
The rebuilding west and follow my logic here. The power-house teams in west are all in build mode and one started last year. ( London ) Now Windsor, Kitchener are getting in-line and trust me, they will be moving out players by Jan....or Spott really loses his mid and goes for it. The way I see it is simple, the Western Conference is very top heavy with Whalers/ Saggy/ Sting then everyone else. Not exactly powerhouse teams save for the Whalers who pop up every five years. But really you have to ask yourself who else in this conference has the fire power and depth to play 6 games against any of those three, lets take a look
Sault ? remove Nick Cousins/ Fritsch and your left quite naked, even scary enough that Montague is also questioning what all the hype and good vibe is around this team. He knows just under the surface the emperor will have no clothes and gets exposed.... But the Hounds are one team and there is another 4 that are very similar except Guelph who should be awful.
London ? Loads of potential with 3 first rnd pics recently added ( Domi/ Horvat/ Maatta ) all three legit 1st rnd guys. But you have to consider experience/ age and they are very young. London have a lot more depth in pure skill than the Sault but you don't see London fans all too excited just yet. Maybe by next fall when they age the fans here will be ramping it up but have seen far too much let down to be taken in by hype.
Erie ? Take away McKegg and there ain't much except some good young prospects who need 2 years to mature.
Windsor ? We all know Rychel by now and if that team is .500 by December get out the check book cuz the fire sale will be on. Anyone younger than 18 and not named Rychel/ Ebert will be on the table...Windsor will want quick reload to match the ages of the two fore mentioned kids. Khokhlachev/ Knunackle ( sp ) will get them major assets back. I said same thing last year way before media mentioned it that Ellis, Kassian would be on table. Rychel got too greedy with his demands so this year he will deal separate and much more quietly.
Kitchener ? Where is that team going this year, not into any deep playoff run. Heck they might have battle to make 6 or 7 hole.
But from that group of teams who will struggle to stay in contention London, Windsor, Kitchener....is the Soo any better than those teams ? No and they will be right in that mix of teams from 5 to 9 battling for every win. The Soo are very hard to predict like this whole conference.....the big 3 are all in same division so Attack or Knights may get free pass. Unless Rangers explode outta the gate which I doubt.
West Division: Plymouth, Sarnia, Saginaw, Windsor, Soo...unless Cousins/ Fritsche can outscore Kochalev/ Kunakle. Ebert/ Rychel on regular basis.
If they can please explain to me how they do it or get past any of these teams in that Division.
Guess you and Brock know more then the NHL staff and scouts
You're starting to become pretty ridiculous and belligerent.
You make it seem like the Soo Greyhounds are icing 5 first round picks (which is obviously not the case).
Do the Hounds have some good players? Absolutely. But do they have some question marks surrounding their season? Absolutely. So do a handful of other teams in the West. And sure, the Hounds could easily answer those questions and finish well into the playoffs. But anyone who follows this league without blinders on, would most definitely admit that there is a chance the Hounds could finish out of the playoffs this year if those question marks don't get answered.
Hell, any team in this league could finish out of the playoffs and that's what makes predicting this league so difficult (and it's why a lot of OHL media members don't make predictions because it gets fans like you in a huffie).
