No one is overrating anyone here. All Devils fans are saying is we cannot trade Zajac unless an upgrade at center is coming back. We have no one else that can replace his role on the team.
And Nashville fans have every right to ask for a lot for Suter/Weber. They are both amazing defenseman who would be most teams #1 go to defender.
Ideally, if Parise were to sign an extension, I think the best trading partners for the Devils would be the Kings.
Parise (signed to an extension)
Johnson, Bernier, and a 1st or a good prospect.
On HF Boards, taking into consideration the value of a player to his current team is overvaluing Like Lindback. He isn't all that valuable on the trade market, but to Nashville he is pretty valuable considering he has shown he can at least be solid in the NHL while Pickard, the next goalie in line on the depth chart, has taken steps back.
Oh, what's the matter? You don't want to trade Vlasic?
Well we don't want to trade Zajac and the Preds don't want to trade either one of their D-men, so don't give us crap about overrating our players.
Big difference, while I don't want to trade him, I can still be rational about what he's worth. You can pretend I'm a hypocrite all you want, you know it's not true.
There's a big difference between not wanting to trade a player and vastly overvaluing him.

There is also a difference between vastly overvaluing a player, and wanting to see a return that fits your team's needs coming back for a player that is a superstar (Weber) or a huge part of your team (Weber, Suter, Zajac). People fail to grasp that just because fans on a discussion board don't want a particular return, or say it isn't a good one, doesn't mean they want more. It means the pieces don't help the team.
We don't want to trade Weber or Suter. If we have to trade one of them we want holes that exist in our team to be filled. We don't want bluechip prospects who have tons of potential, or picks, or a defenseman coming back. If you see that as overvaluing then no one is going to change your mind. I see it as attempting to discuss a potential trade while keeping in mind the needs of the team.
We're not giving up our 60+ point center for a guy that can still plummet. We're not trying to rebuild...
Zajac only leaves if an equal or better #1 center is coming the other way. Head out the cloud.

these two posts should have ended the thread.
preds wont trade away offense, unless we get a WHOLE LOT more offense(so, Parise).
from nashville's perspective, i would take one of the prospects out and add something a little less valuable unless we thought there was a high chance of parise re-signing. i'm sure if lou traded parise, he would let the other team talk first, but otherwise i think that's a bit too much of a risk for nashville.
