There wont be a next season but if there is with a $40m cap, the Leafs are screwed.

I don't think that if there is a cap, it would be put into effect right away.

that is their negotiating stance... it really doesn't work w/out grandfathering in my opinion, unless you wanna start voiding contracts and other ridiculous stuff.

With Tkachuk and Weight still counting against the cap too.
I'd say Philly, but if they dump Leclair, Amonte and Burke somehow, then we'll be alright. Other teams to watch include Toronto, Dallas, Detroit, NYR (Jagr + Holik = $20M), Colorado... If a cap isn't grandfathered in, I don't think it would work at all unless almost every big-money player out there re-structured their deals.

Flyers team salary for next season will be $61 Millions... I am not sure how Bob Clarke will sign Zamnov and Malakov ... Unlesss he can sign these two players $2 Millions a year... Either that or Flyers have to buy out Leclair ($9 Millions), Amonte ($6 Millions) and Roenick ($7 Millions) ... I honestly don't see Flyers signing anyone ...

Might be better for us if it was put in right away. We can get rid of some dead weight and start the youth movement(which I begin to support more and more every day)

Leclair and Amonte will definately be bought out, as will Burke and Lapointe. If the flyers sign Zhamnov at 4 mil and Malakhov at 3, there salary will be somewhere around 52 million. I think they'll have room to sign them and maybe another player as long as a cap has a grandfather clause (which it most definately would).

If I was a hockey player, I'd hire Tkachuk's agent to be mine.

exactly... hard to quantify what the Flyers salary will definitely end up being, but there is a significant chunk of change coming off before even worrying about grandfathering into the salary cap... i very much doubt the high end clubs would be throwing full support, which they seem to be doing, behind a system that would force them to jettison potentially good players to be legal next year...

does anyone know how it worked when the NFL adopted the cap? did they set it high enough that it wasn't an issue, or did they grandfather it in somehow?
