Sounds like Chippewa is filled these days with cool clubs and restaurants. How about Allen Street?

And the Elmwood Bar scene? Still rockin'? Or not?

Is Micky Rats still a destination?
Actually, everything you wrote sounds about right.

If you really want to impress her propose marraige.

All kidding aside, try something a little different and make a day of it. Hop in the car and drive to Lechworth (or some other park with great hiking trails), stopping for brunch at one of the small places on route and spend the afternoon walking the trails at the park (wear comfy shoes). Then stop at a nice restaurant for dinner.

That actually isn't a half bad idea. I don't mind driving an hour or two, are there any particularly nice areas to hike around Western NY?

Letchworth is probably the most scenic if you like to stay on the trails, but if you want to go off the beaten path a little more and explore, Zoar Valley is a pretty decent time. I'd definitely recommend Letchworth; though, just for the sheer power and epicness of the waterfalls.

Just when I thought I was doing a less than stellar job of parenting, my son declares he likes Talking Heads music.

That, and Star Wars music.

So we're listening to a live version of "Once in a Lifetime", and "the Battle of Endor".

edit: I've driven by the north entrance to Letchworth dozens of times but never hiked any trails. When I was in college, a recent graduate a couple years ahead of me fell to his death there. I'm sure it still happens with some frequency.

I'm all for a good prank, but sending someone into a gay bar unawares is a pretty crappy one.

Unless it's in the Police Academy movies.

Allegheny State Park is also there nearby as well and there are several hiking trails there.

Also along the Niagara Gorge--I love doing Devils Hole (and if you're willing to carry stuff down all those steps, there are a few picnic benches down there overlooking the gorge)

The niagara gorge sounds like a perfect idea for an end of summer picnic with the wife and dog. (I do bring poop bags. I get pissed when people don't clean up after their dogs.)

The Niagara Gorge is great...We hike down the gorge at Artpark...We go there to go fishing, however it is still a nice hike in general....

I love being down in the gorge....It's so peaceful....And the river seems so alive when you are right next to it.....

Some helpful tips that may help you decide where to go:

67 West reopening on Chippewa, if you like a college bar atmosphere with lots of people and pretty good music this will appeal to you. Club W is similar to this with some live music some nights.

If you want to feel like you are in an episode of Jersey Shore head on over to SoHo or whatever they turned Level into and Bayou.

Classier places include Encore and Omega on Chip, there was a place next to Stillwater I cant remember the name of but it was nice back towards Allen and Delaware i believe.

Theres some newer place I have good things about like Thirsty Buffalo. If you are a Liberal and/or stoner and want a mellow crowd head over to the Elmwood strip around Coles and Goodbar theres more of the artsy crowd around there as well as Allentown.

If you like the "ethnic" group head on over to La Luna

If you want some easy tail to go home with a lot of wealthy divorcees??sp hang out at Blue Martini and the bar next to stillwater which i cant remember for the life of me.

Wow typing this is somewhat of a Blur, but a giant flashback to my early 20s in the 716 lol

If you want to stay in the Williamsville/Amherst area, you could grab dessert and coffee at the Dessert Deli and then a drink at The Irishman Pub, Loughran's, Brennan's or the Brew Pub.

If you want to go downtown, stay away from Chippewa. Cheeseball central. Try Elmwood (Blue Monk, Faherty's) or Allen Street (Colter Bay, Allen Street Hardware or Mother's on Virginia Place). Of course, no night downtown is complete without a visit to the Old Pink.

I'd choose Elmwood bars over Chip bars any day.

I live in North Carolina for the fall/winter/early spring when its still snowing and then make my home in WNY from about May thru November and I couldn't be happier. Its going to suck in a few years when I have to grow up and get a "big boy job" ..

agreed 100% ever since turning 21 I only wander down to the chip strip about once a year now. Way to much BS and drama and little kids to deal with.. Elmwood is where its at ..

Sure, but OP stated he was looking for clubbing. My definition might be off, but I always thought clubs involved booze as well as dancing. Does Elmwood have those? Serious question, I haven't partook in Elmwood's offerings in quite a while.
