Well I don't get to see a ton of Eastern teams except Saskatoon (huge Sutter fan), Kootenay, and Red Deer. Wish the schedule was a bit better for the dub.

I think they're contemplating that move because of the way Sami's been treated in Finland, they probably feel he isn't getting enough playing time which could be disastrous at his young age and a real tragedy considering his potential.

He's going to get a better opportunity in Finland than in NA.

He played in 11 games out of the 58 played on SM-Liiga's worst team. Avs might bring him over and loan him to an ECHL team.

I'd imagine he'd probably rather stay in Finland and develop than come to a new country and live the AHL life. That seems to be the case with a lot of Europeans, understandably.

I don't believe that Cann will be retained and we already have Pickard signed and looking to go to the AHL next season.

Do we have an ECHL affiliate for next season?

I'd hate to see the any of those three out of the system and also would hate to see Desjardins leave but I think he'll be looking at getting a back-up gig somewhere in the NHL.
I also think it would be a mistake to let Desjardins go . Cedric won at all the level he plays , he's a really good goalie . Will he be a star in the NHL , time will tell , but i'm pretty sure that he got the stuff to play in the NHL . he's coming from the Habs system, which are great for developing Goalies, plus the few games that he played with Tampa he was a stud , He stole the show in all those games.

I wouldn't mind seeing Desjardins as Varly's backup after Giguere is gone, though I'm not sure he wants to be that patient with our system. I can see somebody trying to have him as an NHL backup next year

Well hopefully we make a deal and don't just let him walk.

He's not getting any younger and while his window isn't necessarily closing yet...well it's getting chilly outside.

During his draft year he was a young player on a deep team not getting much ice time. Now he is a first line player getting to show his game at age 19. Sharks let him go because they were loading up for the playoffs, and Pracey is a genius.

How was Sgarbossa a free agent at 19?

He went undrafted, the Sharks invited him into their camp and they signed him.

Shouldn't he have been eligible for the next draft?

that's my best scenario and what i'm hoping for , that Desjardins will stay with us long enough to be our backup , once Giguère's contract is up .

It's really tough to figure out what he will do.

On one hand you figure he wants to be a NHL backup, make NHL money.

But he left Tampa and signed elsewhere, he would be playing in the NHL if he stayed in Tampa. When he started playing he said he was grateful to the Avs organization for giving him a shot and believing in him.

So that makes me think he might play out one more year in LEM, with some spotty backup duty when Giggy or Varly gets injured. Then he says "I want to play in the NHL, or else I'm leaving" and we're ok with that, Aitto comes over to NA, Pickard/Patterson fight for an AHL spot...

Yeah.

He could have but he went to the Sharks as a try out and they signed him. If the SHarks didn't sign him, Bossa would have played in the CHL and then somebody would have likely drafted him in this years draft.

From what I've read, it looks like any player that goes undrafted can be signed by any team once they offer him a try out. I'm not 100% sure but I think that's how the Habs got Gorges and the flyers nabbed Bobrovsky.

Yeah.
Tampa had Dwayne Roloson who was comming from some insane playoffs , I guess he figured that he wouldnt have a lot playing time at the NHL level anyway. Plus he was injured , Tampa let him go and decided to go with Garon.

I think that if he's willing to wait one more year , he got a place as a backup with the Avs . But that's a full season ahead and a lot can happend till then .

Didn't the Flyers try to sign someone out of the 2011 draft this preseason and the CBA nerfed the deal? He's now going back into the 2012 draft iirc.

Just further confuses things.

Yes it was Tomas Hyka, and I think the rule applies differently to European players. Not sure exactly.

That will happen in Junior Hockey when you get 3 PP assists you don't get +'s for those, plus Junior scores get so crazy. In the NHL if your team scored 3PP goals you'd probably win 4-1, 5-0, 4-3, but in juniors you could score 3 PP goals and lose 6-3.

Think if we offered a Desjardins a two yr 1 way contract, he'd be willing to play in the AHL for the first year?

Why? He's RFA, not UFA. Unless he bolts for Europe I don't see the logic in such a deal.
