I've liked the discussion going on in other similar threads, and thought a player like Carkner would get some good competition going especially because the base would most like be a pick, so it would be interesting to see how people up the ante.
Carkner is extremely redundant on Ottawa. His fighting is easily covered by Konopka, Neil, Smith, and a little bit by Cowen. We also have 8 DMan, and Carkner is probably our 3rd or 4th most physical DMan behind Lee, Cowen, and possibly Phillips. With Rundblad, Cowen, Kuba, Lee, and Carkner fighting for 3 spots, the priority is obviously Rundblad, Cowen, and to a lesser extent Lee. Kuba also will be given a shot to gain his value back. All these factors lead me to the conclusion that Carkner has a good chance to be dealt. That being said, I would also not be surprised if we hold 8 DMen so its not like we need to give him away. Keep that in mind while making your offers.
Sens could use picks, Top-6 prospects at any position and physical DMan prospects. A goalie prospect as a throw-in could also be appealing, but not if the goalie is the centrepiece.
Offer away.
Top Offers:
1) NYR: Mats André Zuccarello Aasen for Matt Carkner
2) Mtl: Aaron Palushaj for Matt Carkner
3) Van: 2014 3rd for Matt Carkner
4) Calg: Matt Stajan for Matt Carkner

Does Carkner ever win fights? I see him fight all the time, it just never seems to go his way
He went 8-3-1 last season and 11-5-8 the year before. That's 19-8-9. He outright wins more often than not, and rarely outright loses a fight... only 8 out of 36. So yes, he does win.
EDIT: Just saw your edit... He doesn't do too well with Orr haha. I think he's 1-4-1 or something against Orr. So besides Orr, his fighting record is 18-4-8 in 30 fights.
I don't think Carkner's value would differ much from camp to the deadline. Teams will figure they have a need for a 6 or 7 DMan and Carkner will likely get a significant amount of interest if he's shopped. He is the best DMan enforcer out there and can skate on the 4th line too. I think if he was shopped he could probably get a 2nd +.
imo, he will be the odd man out at training camp.....as a result of Kuba's contract, he's still one of my faves on the team though and I wouldn't take anything less then a 4th rounder for him.
TO OTT:
Dale Weise (Bottom-6, NHL ready prospect)

No thanks, we've got bottom 6ers and bottom 6 prospects coming out our ears. We need prospects with top 6 potential. Maybe a deadline deal of the form :

Maybe not, but he's a decent Dman, tough, big, and cheap. And teams always overpay at the deadline. Heck, if Andy Sutton can get a 2nd rounder, Carkner sure can.

I can see a 4th round pick at the start and possibly a 3rd at the deadline, but a top 6prospect ain't happening for Carkner.

Top 6 Prospects get picked after the 3rd round. In fact, the Sens just traded a 3rd rounder for one... Nikita Filatov. I'm not saying a guy who is a lock or anything, but maybe someone drafted mid- to late-round who has consolidated their stock over a year or two. Even a guy like Michael Bournival would be of interest, even though he won't likely be a top 6er. Galiev, Palushaj, Shugg, Ryan Bourque, Toni Rajala, Avtsin, etc. are all recently drafted 3rd or 4th rounders I might be interested in. Just throwing names out there very broadly, I'm sure some of those guys wouldn't be available but its just an example.
I would like the Canucks to be interested in Carkner but we don't really have anything to give up. And we already have a lot of nhl defenseman. If we get hit by injuries the Nucks offer our 2014 3rd and no more.
