He is a magician with the puck, i'm a big fan, he was overpaid but I believe he will do great things with Buffalo.

He has the tools to be a good puck possession player, but he was crazy bad that half season in Detroit. Soft on the puck in the extreme.

Was still transitioning to the NHL at that point.

What Sabres fans think: "Leino will challenge Crosby for top centerman in the NHL"

What Haters think: "Leino is a bust"

Reality: Leino will get about 20-25 goals and about the same in assists; 40-50 point player. Watching his overall play he is an average 2nd liner in the NHL; especially if they move him to center.

He'll get around 60 points and have a few really nice plays - which is what 4.5M is worth on the open market these days.

Leino will look good between Ennis & Stafford - that should be a very good line this season.

Playing with Danny and Hartnell, Ville is worth probably 3-3.5m per. Without them, less. So yea, I expect that contract to pretty much be a disaster.

I think everyone on our board would be happy for 80 games and a consistant 45-50 points. But what you said would be nice

There's no way a contract for less than a 5 million cap hit can be a "disaster." Just no way.

Stafford is a lot better than Hartnell. Briere carried that line.

He didn't fit Detroits system at all, especially his lack of defense. If you can't produce playing along side Datsyuk then something is definitely wrong.

I think the bigger risk is his transition from wing to center and possibly not fitting into system than not playing with Briere/Hartnell. Playing between two of Vanek, Ennis, Pominville, Stafford, Boyes and Gerbe isn't the worst situation to be in.

According to dobberhockey those were the 5 most common line combinations:
21.41% EV 11 CLEARY,DANIEL - 21 LEINO,VILLE - 40 ZETTERBERG,HENRIK
17.83% EV 51 FILPPULA,VALTTERI - 21 LEINO,VILLE - 29 WILLIAMS,JASON
10.31% EV 8 ABDELKADER,JUSTIN - 21 LEINO,VILLE - 18 MALTBY,KIRK
5.83% EV 11 CLEARY,DANIEL - 51 FILPPULA,VALTTERI - 21 LEINO,VILLE
3.83% EV 17 EAVES,PATRICK - 21 LEINO,VILLE - 40 ZETTERBERG,HENRIK

http://www.dobberhockey.com/frozenpo...ations&sent=go

So from the skill guys he played more with Zetterberg than he did with Datsyuk. He didn't really play much at all with Datsyuk.

3.44% EV 44 BERTUZZI,TODD - 13 DATSYUK,PAVEL - 21 LEINO,VILLE
2.69% EV 13 DATSYUK,PAVEL - 96 HOLMSTROM,TOMAS - 21 LEINO,VILLE
0.65% EV 13 DATSYUK,PAVEL - 17 EAVES,PATRICK - 21 LEINO,VILLE
0.65% EV 13 DATSYUK,PAVEL - 17 EAVES,PATRICK - 21 LEINO,VILLE
0.5% EV 11 CLEARY,DANIEL - 13 DATSYUK,PAVEL - 21 LEINO,VILLE

Those were the 5 most common line combinations with Datsyuk. Overall Leino spent about 7% of his EV time with him. He played 42 games that season for Detroit, so 7% is about 3 games.

Flyers fan here, I am not trying to troll or anything. Im also not a talent expert, but last year it seemed to me like he hit a wall, where when he's not scoring, he's worse than useless, b.c his game is not really that physical. For a guy who battled so well, it seemed to me that down the stretch when he got off his game, he wasn't playing physical, scoring, or doing anything positive. With that said, I hope the best for him, and hope he lives up to that contract. When he's on his game he can do some pretty amazing things, so just hope that's the Ville you get all year.

The chemistry that line had was unbelievable. The Chances of Ville finding that in Buffalo are minimal.

Pretty much depends on if Tyler Ennis improves and Drew Stafford continues to dominate. If they both do, than Ville's job will be much easier. That being said, I think he is capable of 55-60 points with an outside chance at 70.

To think of it, the Sabres top 6 looks pretty good on paper.

Leino-Ennis-Stafford
Vanek-Roy-Pominville

Most Sabres fans think he will net around 45-55 points. Not really sure why people think we see him as a top flight Center.

And Briere was not the most popular person in Flyerville before Leino came over and clicked with him and Hartnell. I find it odd that it was Hartnell and Briere having chemistry with him and not the other way around. It's a two way street and more than likely all 3 players benefit from each other equally. I will say that after watching Briere in Buffalo Philly fans better hope someone can once again cover for him defensively because there's no player in the league that crutches off his teammates with terrible defensive awareness than Daniel Briere.

Very good on paper, and loads of skill.

Just too small.

This 100% .. I think he will tear $&#! up this year just not down the middle..

Leino-Roy-Vanek
Ennis-?-Stafford
Hecht-Adam-Pominville
Gerbe-Gaustad-Kaleta

That's how I see it playing out.. ? Probably ends up being Boyes duty but then again he failed at holding it last season..

I think he can score 65-70 points if he indeed centers Vanek and Stafford which will be perfectly fine for 4.5M.

Briere was considered an albatross of a contract before Leino.. expect him to fall off a little bit.

They expect Leino to start the year at center. If he fails there, I would expect Hecht to fill in, he did a very good job centering Vanek and Pominville after Roy went down.

I actually think Pominville would be a better fit for him, better defensively and Poms seems to develop chemistry on about every line he plays on.

With Lindy Ruff forward lines are as unpredictable as it gets, though. If Leino doesn't click with someone immediately I'd expect Ruff to shuffle the lines a fair bit.

These would be my ideal top 9 currently:
Vanek-Leino-Pominville
Ennis-Roy-Stafford
Gerbe-Hecht-Boyes

If Luke Adam makes the team Gerbe moves to the 4th line, Hecht to 3rd line LW and Kaleta/McCormick out of the lineup.

all i'm saying is you'll be seeing that play a lot. he's a great puck handler but sometimes he tries to do a bit too much. he's also a "pass first" guy that will sometimes destroy a scoring chance, but more often than not create a beautiful play. leino is a great asset for buffalo, i'm just not convinced the price is right. but hey, detroit was quick to cast him off too. i hope i'm wrong and i hope he carries buffalo to the promised land so he can buy some more shoes
