I still remember Ryan's interview in Game 82 in Boston a few years back. The NESN reporter asked him if they were expecting bigger things the following season given how young the Sabres were, and he more or less said, "Yeah, but I'm probably not going to be here, so whatever." I enjoyed that.
Wow Mike Ryan is garbage.. Hope he never plays a game for us.
But he isn't garbage for Rochester, which is where he was signed for. I'd be shocked if he played more than a game or two for Buffalo. He adds some speed to the Amerks, though, which is a good thing.

Some people still fail to realize a simple concept. He may not be good in Buffalo, but he's a very good AHL player.
An underrated part of this signing is that Szczechura has 297 pro games, which means he is counted as an exempt veteran (between 260-320). You are allowed 5 veterans in the AHL, plus one exempt. And sometimes the exempt ones are not easy to find. But it allows you some wiggle room on the roster with veteran space.

Meh he's a warm body who isn't a defensive liability even if my grandmother has more offensive touch than him. If we have 3-4 injuries up front, you could do worse than calling him up.
That said, I hope we never have 3-4 injuries up front where we have to raid Rochester.

If Kotalik and/or Morrisonn are sent down, do they count as veterans? Or is that rule restricted to two-way contracts?
I think one of them will be the #13 in Buffalo, which would leave them one opening.
Maybe. Darcy has been talking about guys getting invites to camp, so I can still see another forward being added. Of that list, I can only seeing Ellis sticking in Buffalo. But he has a 2 way for a reason. Maybe Adam would stick, but he's likely better off getting fist line minutes in Rochester, at least to start off.
Haha I'll never forget the Pirates game in Buffalo two or three years ago when Gerbe and Ryan (while with the 'Canes AHL squad) started an almost bench clearing brawl in HSBC. Should make for an interesting training camp.

Meh, I think they're probably already over it. Conboy jumped Gerbe in that same game and almost maimed him, and Conboy was in the organization last year.

Lots to like about Ryan as a recall option getting 6-8 minutes a night, he's got effort and wheels. Yes, he's a featherweight out there, but the guy doesn't dog it at all.
Szczechura has some recall experience too -- also fits the mold of a guy who can keep up and fill in if needed.
Good find on Szczechura's status. Right now, it's Ryan, Ellis, Stuart in the vet category. I suspect there will be a defenseman at some point as well.

Ryan is the reason I ever found out about HF. I remembered him in whatever draft it was that Dallas took him but wanted to find out what he'd been up to when he was traded for Barnes. Google (or AskJeeves or whatever I used back then) brought me here and I haven't left ever since.

So what you are saying is that's the best thing Michael Ryan has ever done in terms of hockey? Seriously though, Ryan is a bum at the NHL level but will be good for the Amerks.
