He is good but his contract is up and he will most likely want a good raise. Kulemin is also up and I don't see Burke giving a lot of money to Grabovski when Burke likes big centermen. Hence why I think he is trade bait in a package.

Unless he is not asking for the moon, I think he will be gone. I don't see him here with connolly at number and colborne almost ready to step in at two or if lombardi is ready and also bozak, dupuis. Looks to me like burke is planning something.

Agreed.

I don't think Burke moves (this year) unless something too good comes along.

I think Grabo is in Burkie's short-term plans for now and once contract demands are made visible that will dictate what we he does. If he's asking a reasonable amount, add him to the long-term list.

Okay, heres my attempt, not that it would ever happen. Because it wont, but if were fielding hypothetical offers:

To TOR:

Patrik Berglund

To STL:

Nikolai Kulemin

As another poster said, thats about as close to a potential 1C, and pretty much a bonafide 2c.

This is about as spot on as I think the value can get. But I don't think either team does it; both need the C and both absolutely love these guys.

i think the value is very close imo ... but i dont know why STL would do this ... unless they move Steen to 2nd line C and make Backes their #1 C

So are you going to package Connolly or Grabovski with him? Probably not, unless we're talking about a deal involving 3 or 4 assets on either side, in which case we're no longer talking about the value of Kulemin alone.

So you're not sure how Lombardi isn't considered a #2C, but 2 sentences later you say he won't be #2C on a non-playoff team that's not especially deep down the middle. That kind of answers your question, doesn't it?

No, it totally reinforces what I said. A team with a weak center on the first line will not be competitive, even if they have a first-line winger next to him. You just demonstrated that point.

Hmmmm....

You began by criticizing my "value of" post, where I questioned Hawks fans if a package involving Kulemin would be fair value for Toews. In the above quoted post, you go onto say that if the Leafs wanted to get a #1 centerman for Kulemin, they would have to package him with a centerman like Grabovski.... (I'm just going to stop here for a minute to scratch my head), please re-read my earlier post, and check out the other players who were offered in my package. I'll give you a clue, starts with 'Grabo', ends with 'vski'.

If not for all the time wasted explaining ourselves, I'm almost certain that a Leafs fan somewhere could have discovered a cure to cancer, or maybe found a way to reverse global warming or something....

I'd accept that trade but I don't think St.Louis does. The value is there but they covet Berglund over there and rightfully so. He'll be a solid 1B, 2A for many years.

Realistically, there was some good offers for Kulemin, but he means a lot for this franchise. Its really hard to see him being traded.

Exactly, my point is the value is basically as close as it gets. But in this day and age, the C player always has more value.

You think you can get Kulemin, Schenn and a 1st for just Stastny and 2nd? If you want Kulemin, Schenn and 1st you better believe Duchene's coming the other way

I pass on it all, only because I think a lot of Grabo's success was dependent on Kulemin. By trading Kulemin, the Leafs risk losing A LOT of production. I'll keep established chemistry and time played together over "skill" or scouting reports. I'm happy with continuously ripping off teams (Franson trade, Phaneuf trade, Lupul trade, etc), draft well and pick up UFA assets. Unless there is an overpayment for Kulemin, I'll pass. Always the hardest working guy at any time on the ice. Defensively responsible. Growing into the player he was in the KHL. And I have no doubt that him and Grabo will take a hometown discount - these guys are comfortable in Toronto and roots. Believe it or not, when your primary language is not English, its hard enough bonding and learning systems. These guys aren't about to go through all of that again.

You know how hard you're going to get flamed for that comment

But I agree, for that package someone better than Statsny will be coming back.

No, not just someone better than Stastny - Duchene. Simple as that if you're prying our best forward, franchise d-man and a 1st round pick.
