40 Minutes of Pavel Bure

3 part series that starts off with a a couple of the most important / creative goals, then to the most important part of his career (94 Playoffs), jumps back to the early Soviet Union days, and then goes to the the start of his NHL career to the end.

Clearly one of the best ever. Owned the ice and nobody could catch him. Also a tough little bugger too. Lol'd at him owning Tkachuk a couple times. He sure got a lot more room after the scary hit on Churla. Pretty sure he'd be suspended for the playoffs if that happened today.

He also cut through guys like Lidstrom and Bourque like butter. Unstoppable.

The disgrace is in how Vancouver botched their relationship with the guy so badly that they STILL haven't made up. Ridiculous. Esp. after watching these... He gave everything he had to that franchise.

I think it's pathetic that dominant players like this guy and Eric Lindros aren't first ballot all-stars while other 2nd-tier guys make it in because they kiss a bit more ass.

Limdros was quite the arrogant jerk. Bure, not so much.Whatever happened with Vancouver was some kind of misunderstanding between what he's thought he had agreed to with the organization, and it turned out to be different than he'd expected. I'm pretty sure some kind of American/Canadian dollars thing factored in.

I don't know how that could be a misunderstanding. Who signs a nhl contract in canadian dollars? They clearly tried to take advantage of the guy.

Truth. It's really pathetic that Bure isn't in. Ironically the main reason he's not in is the longevity of his career, which would inevitably have been short given the inhumane toll his style took on his knees, plus the fact that the only way to stop him was to injure him. There's a reason no one else could ever play the way he did on the level he did. Even Ovechkin looks like he's playing with cement in his skates compared to Pavel.

Anyone with a highlight reel like that should be automatically HHOF bound. I mean if you were trying to convey the excitement of hockey to someone there's nothing better show than Bure's one on all ****fests.

There are a couple of quick interview snippets from the playoffs and another one with Linden asking him what he wants for Christmas.

It was a bunch of things that the organization did badly. The worst was probably planting a story saying he would hold out during the playoffs if he didn't get a new contract. Here's an article that explains most of it. His jersey should be retired. None of the old management/owners are around, so I don't see why they won't do this (or atleast put him in the ring of honour).

Guy had every offensive skill in spades, but they were often overlooked due to his speed.

His shot was clocked at 96-98 mph IIRC and was incredibly accurate.

Bure was one of the greatest offensive threats the game has ever seen and I don't see how he is kept out of the HHOF for long.

FAVORITE PLAYERS LIST

1. Luc Robitaille
2. Pavel Bure

I was only about 10yrs old when Vancouver met NYR in the Stanley Cup finals and i literally cried when they lost, i wanted Bure to have that cup sooo bad it was heart breaking for me. Definitely, was one of the most amazing hockey players and it sucks his career was cut so short by injury. I was disappointed when he went to Florida, really felt like Vancouver was his home and it sucked to seem him go.

Obviously we will never know all sides of this story, but the way it looks Vancouver tried to screw him from the start, pretty slimy way to handle this situation if you ask me, but on the other hand who knows what kind of shenanigans going oh in other places, this one just saw the light of day.
Bures jersey should have been retired long time ago, do the right thing, better late then never.

Also, as Caps fan i've been always in George McPhee's corner sort of speak, but his involvement in this fiasco kind of cools the way i look at GMGM. OP, i hope you don't mind if i take that archive's article to the Caps boards for a discussion. Thanks.

Being reminded of Bure's greatness just shows how much of a joke the HOF selection committee is. Of course when a guy like Quinn is on the selection committe it should come as no surprise.

(its easy to make outlandish statements when you don't back them up)

Not as good as Ovechkin?

59 goals and nobody on his team had more than 37 points.

He had 33 assists, nobody else had more than 14 goals.

He outscored 2nd on his team by 55 points.

They (Pat Quinn and Griffiths) tried to rip him off. Plain and simple.

That's a matter of opinion. Different eras and different types of players.

He was most exiting player to watch in the at his time, crazy speed, hard shot, stickhandling but maybe for HHOF spot you needed to visit your own defensive zone at least twice a game

Churla would be happy if Bure never went into his own defensive zone.

On another note, looks like Bure will be in NHL 12.

Bure sure gave goalie's nightmares, Felix Potvin especially. Watching those vids made me appreciate just how good the old Canucks sweaters used to look before the dreadful Orca made its way in.

Bring them back!
