Zach Bogosian

Well, there are rumours swirling again that Zach Bogosian (D-man for Winnipeg) may be on the trading blocks again.

Here's my question: What should Winnipeg expect in return for Bogosian?

(Keep in mind that Winnipeg is most likely looking for a forward, and most likely looking for a centre at that. Who would be a perfect trade value for Bogosian?)

This is a decent update on the situation:

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/spo...127440118.html

I don't agree with a comparable (Marc Staal) the author provided as a "moveable" contract even if it was Bogosian's. If Bogosian wants a $4M x 5Y type of contract, I'd wager WPG will deal him this off-season.

To Winnipeg: Marc-Edouard Vlasic

To San Jose: Zach Bogosian

Both underachieving players need a change of scenery.

Vlasic isn't underachieving, he's one of the best young defensive defensman in the league.

I think The problem here is That fan want big Time overpayment for him cause He was a 3 overall and i totally understand but sadly stats are not there for Bogo ... He is still only 21 and have fully potential but if he really want a 5y 4 million then the problem is in is head cause no way he deserve what stall got !! Probably that the jets GM is asking for the moon but no team is willing to give it .. Reality is that trade are not base on "he will be good" or " he was 3 overall" or "he as potential " trade are 99% of the time base on stats .. How many point , how much minus plus is he , is he good defensively if not is he good offensively etc!! Bogo haven't prove nothing yet so the jet will get in return the value of an unproven 21 years old player with the risk to become a superstar or a bust !!

I'm guessing the Jets would want a young C with 1st line potential for him. If I were to name a few off the top of my head maybe players such as Hodgson, Turris, Gagner, Strome.

Where did you hear the latest Bogosian rumours? Out of Winnipeg media?

How about Omark or Gagner+ Petry+ 2nd round pick.

I doubt the Isles will move Strome who they just drafted, and Phoenix intends to keep Turris. Hodgson is a possibility I guess but Van is pretty set on D.

a recent trade that might serve as a comparable was cam barker to minnesota... but looking back into history we see jovonovski and pronger traded early in their careers too

im guessing that winnipeg wont like the offers for bogosian if they put him up for grabs... but maybe they want to move him anyhow? the contract demand is a lot. and winnipeg does seem to have enough other offensive minded high paid dmen around they could spare him...

if im boston.. i want to get in on this opportunity, but the rumored asking price is way out of my budget. he'd have to get reasonable before i could give up anything for him.

then id probably base my offer around spooner if winnipeg wants a young center... throw in boychuck since his job is being taken in this deal... throw in a first round pick... and then see where the competing offers are before i make my second proposal

Seriously.

And that would give the Sharks White, Murrat, and Vandermeer down the left side. Ick.

Bogosian is a nightmare defensively at this point. Where the hell would he play? We have Boyle, Burns, and Demers down the right side, and the only one Bogo even has a chance at is Demers, and the Sharks org is high in Demers and he will 100% have a spot on the Sharks D core.

Vlasic-Burns
Murray-Boyle
White-Demers
Vandermeer-Braun

If Bogosian came to the Sharks, they'd have to do something like...

Demers-Burns
Murray-Boyle
White-Bogosian

And I'm not sure that would work out any better.

This post really hurt my head[/QUOTE]

Thats what I was thinking lol.

I dont think its in our best interest for a 4mill+ per year contract with Bogo. He has to earn it. Maybe do a 1 or 2 year deal with a more realistic price tag (based on performance and not the fact that he was a high draft pick with big expectations) and go from there. He is either going to excell with the new Jets system or maybe he has hit a plateau...only time will tell.

As for trading him, there was an article today in the WInnipeg papers regarding how he has rented an apartment ( I realize that doesnt show that his stay is perm.) and is looking forward to playing in Winnipeg.

I'm a Leafs and Jets fan. Leafs side says hell yes, Jets side says ******* no!

I wouldn't want this trade to happen in general, now that I think about it. Makes Winnipeg's defense a lot worse.

I think a Sam Gagner for Zach Begosian deal might be a good starting point for a possible deal. Right now it would help/make sense for both clubs. Winnipeg may be getting the better player right away, maybe Bogosian and a 3rd for Gagner.

Bogosian was a top pick, he's got size and skill and oozed potential. His lofty expectations have toned back some as his offensive production hasn't been there, at all.

Then there has been some other questions on how well he's been able to get along with. With the old management there was his "home sickness issue". Then with the new management there was the "cool" meeting that took place. Whenever a player forces a situation where a team has to trade a player whether it is Hossa, Kovalchuk, Heatley, Thorton, or Zach Bogosian, the value is not full.

There's no way he deserves Staal money who's shown to be a proven leader, one of the league's top shutdown defender's, an all-star, and has a definite offensive game. If anything Bogo has shown a definite development track similar to that of Eric Brewer.

As was Eric Brewer, 6-3, 220, drafted #5 overall, was supposed to have the complete package. He struggled to meet those expectations and overall, until he became the defensive D-man he is now.

Bogosian isn't going anywhere (he even says he's going to re-sign soon in the WFP article).

He's likely waiting to see what Doughty and especially Schenn get before re-signing.

I'm guessing he'll get an identical contract to Schenn.

As a Leafs fan, The max I would offer for Bogosian is Kessel and Schenn but nothing more, not even a conditional 7th round pick.

Winnipeg should take that and run. Schenn and Bogo are about equal.
