Weber + Kostitsyn Package (MTL)

Kostitsyn has issues with Martin, and may/may not be traded (A lot of people on the Habs board think he will). He is solid, and will pot 20-25 goals. 35-45 points. Weber will be a top 4 D-man with great offensive instinct. Montreal Is looking for :
A) 2nd Line centers
B) G prospects
C) Whatever else that will make the team better (ie. Top six player, etc.

Both players are worth more to the Habs atm than they would be to other teams.

Habs seem to have at least 3 2nd line centers/candidates already?

By deadline I could see Weber's value going up quite a fair bit though.

Montreal (Weber + Kostityn) for Nashville (Weber + Kostistyn)

Then take new Montreal (Kostityn) for Nashville new (Weber)

Then you have Montreal (Weber X 2) and Nashville (Kostitsyn X 2)!

It's the new math!

LOL @ Nashville. We also have a D-man prospect called Ellis! He's not as good though

Value isn't great. It could probably land us a playoff team's 1st rounder. Would be ugly for Montreal's depth though.

Only at or near deadline would LJV (Le Jeune Vébère; Yannick Weber) be worth a first by himself, provided he can step up his game.

Exactly, right now Kostitsyn value isn't very good, scored 20 goals pretty much playing 3rd line minutes and not much pp time. 1 year contract I'd see what he can do a last time before moving him

With Spacek and possibly Gill also leaving next off season, I wouldn't move Weber who is very close of being a full timer in the league right now.

Agree about Weber - no reason to trade him unless he becomes redundant.

Regarding Kostitsyn, he's actually a pretty good fit for the habs as a scoring winger on the third line. If he is traded, they lose a lot of offensive depth and make the third line much less of a threat to score. Also he has very little trade value, so why not just keep him and trade him during the season if he becomes a problem?

Actually, he played second line minutes and second pp. He was 5th on the team in ES TOI for forwards, and played 2:16 a game pp. The only reason his overall minutes are low is because he doesn't kill penalties.

His numbers are ok for a second line player, problem is that they aren't good enough to compensate for his lack of an overall game and inconsistent physical play.

I can't see him bringing back very much, at 26 he is running out of time to put it together. Plus, he is a UFA at year end, so if by some miracle he does have a strong year, he will demand a ton of money to re-sign.

As for Weber, he is a 5'11 dman who has yet to establish himself. Not great value at this point. Don't get me wrong, he could very well prove himself this season and drive up his value. But right now, he isn't a top prospect and isn't an NHL player, he is kind of in between. He needs to prove that he can score at this level before teams will give up a lot for him.

Problem is, you are looking to move to so-so assets, with a combined cap hit of over $4M. Can't really see too many teams parting with much for that package. Forget a 2nd line center. Maybe a 3rd line player and a decent but not great pick/prospect is the most I could see coming back to Montreal

Please explain to me why we would want goalie prospects in the first place? So that our HF prospect pool can look all nice and shiny? Even if we had Markstrom, Bernier etc. and they reached their potential, the most they'd ever play is 20 games.

Ya, so why is Weber who is young talented, can play on the PP and has an excellent shot part of any package?

Weber is not likely to be moved. As for Andrei, he might be, but as mentioned more likely later in the season one management has had time to assess their assets and see how things go with Cole.

Just curious, if Weber is so good why is he included in almost every Habs trade offer? I dont really see other teams fans wanting him or starting proposals with him included.

Markov - Yemelin
Subban - Gill
Spacek - Gorges
Weber?

Lack of a lineup spot for him, mainly. He's a good player and he had a good playoffs, but there's a ton of D-Men competing with him for ice time. Veterans like Spacek and Gill likely won't sit over him.
