It's boring here, as it's the summer, so I wanted to discuss the future of the name of our building.
The deal United has with the Hawks/Bulls is set to expire after the 2014 season. We all know United's history over the past 10 years, from filing for bankruptcy to their reorganization, then more issues with the recession and then their merger with Continental. They were bleeding money hard core, but have gained a bit of stability over that time. The question is, how much? In that merger, United assumed Continental's logo, which went official right around January of this year. We didn't see any logo changes in the UC, and I figured it would just wait until the summer. However, driving past the stadium last week, nothing has been changed and my thinking has become that they will just leave all the old signage, including the aerial view, until the rights end and then be done from there.
So, what do you think will happen in 2014? Will United reup?
Will they keep the name anyways if they don't?
What other Chicago based companies can you see acquiring the sponsorship?
What companies would you like to see?
My shot in the dark prediction: The 2014-15 Hawks will play in the Orbitz Center.
My shot in the dark prediction: The 2014-15 Hawks will play at the Goose Island Center.
I love the Goose, but, well, they don't have that kind of money. That's why I went an online company that has massive revenues and will only continue to grow (and sounded way better than the Groupon Center).

My mother works for United... regarding the logo, not everything has been changed in their own offices yet let alone something like the UC. It might not get done before the rights expire anyway. The company is stable, but it's too volatile an industry to predict where it will be in three years time... they're shifting a lot of operations stuff to Houston and are heavily promoting their new status as the airline with the most flights into and out of New York airports, so who knows where their sponsorship interests will lie by then?
I imagine some other local company would step up, there are only about a million of them. Aon would be the obvious choice.

It was announced late this past March, that Anheuser-Busch purchased Goose Island for about $40M... so conceivably, with their backing it could happen, not that I'd bet on it.

Yeah, I mean, if I had to guess on a new company I would go with TransUnion. Another possibility is CNA Financial. MillerCoors is another strong possibility. "The Coors Light Ice Box" (Would never happen with the Bulls there, also maybe too long but kinda cool)

The thing is customers aren't seeing that, so it doesn't matter if it's up to date or not. When you are paying for advertising, you want your logo to be consistent across your brand. That's Marketing 101.
Aon I could see. As long as it's not some ******** like Lemonheads Arena.
I thought a bit about Aon. Thing with them is they are so concentrated with their global reach and blowing money on the Man United sponsorship to get penetration into Asia it's hard for me to see them doing it. I don't know if I've ever seen them sponsor a Chicago team, which is a bit odd for a company of their size and power that's here. That said, $3-4M a year is chump change for them, especially against that United deal (like $27M a year, I believe) so many they'd be in on it.
