Prospect Poll #18 (This ones for the mods out there)
At the end of all these, I plan on making a nice big thread with quotes on each prospect. If you could give me a quote (reasoning) on whoever you're voting for, that'd be great.
Boom/Bust (Aren't they all?) goaltending prospect, Samu Perhonen!
Heard some very good things about him. Not sure what will become of him, but sounds like he could be used on any line in the AHL in his short stint last year.
Plante made Strudwick look like a Norris candidate last season.
Plante simply will never be a regular NHL defenseman. At best a #7, he's just too slow and isn't so terrific defensively (ala Hal Gill) that he is required.

Finally you guys believe me?
Man, was I attacked when I said the Plante pick sucked at 15.

I haven't seen some of these guys enough (Simpson). Picked Ewanyk watched lots of Oil Kings games last year, and I like this kids style. Plus the luck of getting players to make it in the 3rd-4th round, + local boy means you have a great chance on a flyer here.
Plante has a long road to go. So far the poll looks great, but Marincin should be way higher

I think the worst combo you can have is when you hear that no hockey smarts + bad skating come as a package. I hate hearing size, size, ect didn't hurt Lidstrom or Neidermeyer too much.
James Olesiak has size but he seems to have other facets. Even some of Plantes lining up to hit a guy weren't great.
Personally, I think his development was screwed up quite a bit by having two years of his development scuttled by injuries. His skating and passing are horrible (but those were kind of expected) and his lack of awareness is somewhat understandable (he's still relatively young and lost a lot of time to injury) but the reason I think he's a long shot is that he seems to lack toughness for such a big guy.
I had hopes he would turn into a Souray-lite (big, big shot, tough), a Hal Gill (big, slow, but defensively aware) or a Jason Smith (tough and willing to get dirty), but it seems like every passing season he seems to show little or no improvement.
At this point, I don't even know if he gets re-signed next year (and he definitely won't get his current salary).
Here's hoping he proves me wrong and shows that he can at least be a bottom-pairing defenceman this year.

Our scouts saw the combination of size, physicality and good offense.
But they didn't saw the main problems.
Even I could see it in a few clips I saw about him at the draft year.
For me it was clear that this type couldn't provide any offense in the NHL (if he would make it into the NHL someday)
He woudl be a typical defensive D. And therefor he was too slow and too stupid. So I saw the 7th NHL D and mainly AHL D in him.
95% disagreed with me and saw him as a 2nd pair D in the NHL.
No.
It's just a polemic phrase from you. if you would read my posts you would know that you wrote complete bs here.
Really?
Even though I lack an aviater and my post count pales in comparison to many on this board, I've been around quite awhile and I can't remember reading a single positive post by you on any player on the Oilers. You may be right and if I'm wrong, please let me know which player on the team you've actually liked over the past 8 years and I will accept that I'm wrong. Just one will do.
And, while you may feel like you were attacked, the way I remember it was that almost NOBODY liked the Plante pick when he was selected. Almost everyone here was calling for Lowe's head when he picked Plante while Cherepanov and Esposito were still on the board, and those calls grew even louder when they traded two picks to move up and select Riley Nash. So there's really no need for the victim complex.
And you might want to understand what the word polemic means before you try to use it in an argument as a non-native English speaker against a native English speaker. In no way was I trying to win an argument as a Plante fan, look back at what I posted earlier in this thread - I'm no fan of Plante either. However, I'm also not constantly criticizing every single player then crying foul when one of them turns out to be crap.

I don't know how often I did it. It's getting stereotype here.
RNH, Hall, Klefbom, Marincin, Hamilton, Rieder, Pitlick... There were a lot picks I liked or were ok with.
When I was writing often negative since 2006 perhaps there were som reaosns? Forgot how good this team did the last years?
I was against tradign up for Peckham.
Were ok with Petry, even if my first reaction wasn't too positive.
Still, were those 2 were doing something great so far far in the NHL?
Both are a bit overhyped here a bit I fear.
i think Petry is a bit overhyped, maybe not so much Peckham....what you see is what you get, big and tough, willing to drop the gloves, and still learning how to play defence in the NHL.
