Clubs and fun around Buffalo?

There aren't many places I can go to get accurate opinions about life out in Buffalo, especially from the people who live here. I lurk a lot and you guys seem to know Buffalo and the surrounding areas pretty well.

The girlfriends birthday is coming up. We usually don't do too much but I think I want to take her out for a night on the town this time around. I'm not much of a nightclub or nightlife kind of guy at all, but she loves clubs and going out in general. Are there any good, safe clubs around Buffalo? Doesn't necessarily have to be in Buffalo though, I live in Williamsville near Main St... so maybe there's something out here?

Just looking to gather up some ideas of fun stuff we could do too, so any other ideas would be appreciated as well.

Hit up the Chocolate Bar before you go to the clubs on Chippewa. Awesome desserts, great date spot.

You know... I really can't think of any one in particular anymore otherwise I would've tried to point you somewhere specific. Used to get dragged out to 67 West which really wasn't bad, but they're closed up now.

The good thing about Chippewa is that it's a bit compact, so you can literally just go next door from wherever you can and see if the scene there is more to your liking.

Ace's Chocolate Bar recommendation is solid. Great food, good drinks. Might be a good launching platform.

One thing is certain, though - you will either enjoy Prima Pizza or Jim's Steakout. Whatever happens to you throughout the course of the night, hold on to that light at the end of the tunnel.

Pony up and go 90 minutes north. Toronto is the spot...

Asking a question like that and you get many varied responses. What seems like fun to you may be boring or dumb to others. If going out drinking is what you want to do, stay local to your area. Or better yet, avoid going out to bars altogether. Afterall the weekends are amateur hour especially on Chippewa. Save your money and possibly more and take her to a nice dinner, and find a UNIQUE thing to go do, not something that has been done over and over and over again, like going to a bar or club. But if you like following the crowd, then bar or club it up.

I agree...Can't go wrong with club marchella....I don't know one person who ever said anything bad about the place....Everyone I know loves it....It has a little bit of everything for everyone....

Pool table, darts, juke box, sometimes live music, plays club music sometimes, friendly staff always, great food, great drink prices...

I would say this should be your first stop out....You might even love it and not want to go anywhere else.....

Can't go wrong with the Chocolate Bar. Best place on the street in my opinion.

(And in case you're not picking up the sarcasm, Marchella's is a gay bar.)

Check to see if that location is still open. Butterwood closed their Williamsville location in the last few weeks.

It's actually Club Marcella, and it's a riot.

For the OP, if you want to stay in the 'burbs, Blu Martini is right in Williamsville. It doesn't get the people Chippewa gets, but it's a safe bet.

I liked Allen St a lot, and its where my parents met so I guess I am a bit bias.

Did the same company own both? The place on Chippewa was still open as of two Fridays ago.

Yes. The first tip was the identical menus. The wholesale (original) location out in West Falls is still open, but the Williamsville location is closed/for lease as of Sunday night. The wife and I were looking for coffee and desert and that was the top choice... and it was closed.

Interesting. When I was there (Chippewa) a couple weeks ago, the bartender was talking about their expansion plans into Toronto. Wonder if he was just talking out his rear, or just didn't know.

I hope Chippewa doesn't close down. I rather like the more laid back vibe in there on the rare occasion I go downtown.

They may have simply closed the one in Williamsville. Butterwood's primary business is supplying restaurants with their fine, fine deserts (I recommend the apple pie).

Wow.... how things have changed in 30+ yrs! (Including me!)

I went to Hutch Tech in the 70's and Chippawa was the grimey red light district (walked the street everyweek day to and from Main Street). Allen Street was hip and advant garde.

Sounds like Chippewa is filled these days with cool clubs and restaurants. How about Allen Street?

And the Elmwood Bar scene? Still rockin'? Or not?

Is Micky Rats still a destination?
