Okay, so I know his value is painfully high, but I also know that the Flyers could use a young, solid dman like Ekmann-Larsson and even more intriguing is that Phoenix is in desperate need of a young goalie, which we happen to have available now that we snagged Bryz. Would a deal like Bobrovsky + a first get it done for Ekmann-Larsson?
Flyers fans, I know a first is a high price, but for OEK, totally worth it. It could even require more than that, I have no idea.
I'd jump at a deal Of Bob +1st for OEL... however I don't think Coyotes fans would. Schenn is off limits considering if he's gone that means Talbot or Betts would become our 3rd line center and they would be crazy to trade Couturier after he practically fell into their laps at the draft not even 2 months ago.
So, you want what is probably the highest valued prospect commodity (young outstanding potential dman) and your willing to give up the lowest valued prospect commodity (goaltending)? Buy hey, you will throw in a 1st, even if that 1st is probably a late one?
Remember all those offer that Philly got for Giroux before he became a regular? Remember your reactions? Now sit down as a Coyote fan and think about your offer.
Don Maloney pretty much stated in black and white that he he chose Mike Smith at 2m per for 2yrs over Vokoun for 4m+ for 3yrs because he liked Smith better as a fit than Vokoun.
Maloney, Tippett, Sean Burke and Mike Smith all seem to feel that Smith will be the perfect fit for this team. His size, age, athletisism, puck moving prowess, and attitude they seem to feel will gel perfectly with the teams personnel and system. Smith has done well for Tippett in the past, as has a similar goaltender in Turco. The idea is that Tippett's systems and Smiths strengths and weakness are perfectly matched.
Myself, I think they are full of ****, and I'm utter depressed by the whole thing. I feel that this management group bought their own snake oil and shot themselves in the foot by not immediately jumping on Vokouns first offer. 3yrs, 15m? Sure!
What we on message boards think, though, does not matter. We look at the pro goalie depth for this franchise and we laugh. Our management team grins confidently.
The Coyotes brass are quite pleased with the goaltending situation. Unfortunately.
OEL would cost at least Schenn. Don't like it? Feel free to kick rocks. You are asking for our most talented player. We ought to ask for Giroux.
