If he wants to score goals every single time with ill regard to the defensive game he should be a forward not a defensemen.
Geez, give the kid a break. He's all of 20, still has a LOT of growing to do into his body and had a sieve in goal for most of the year. Overrated...pfft. The kid is electric, people wish they could overrate him on their own team.

People are under-rating Hedman IMO. The guy was a top-pairing defenceman on a Conference Final team. I think he will surprise people offensively this year.

Hedman will be the next great defenceman. Regardless of country of origin.

Yeahhhhh, playing 20+ minutes a night on a bottom feeding team will severely impact your +/-. Get a REAL stat. And you obviously haven't watched very much of him if you think he gets beat so often.

Who was his competition? A washed up Matthias Ohlund? MAB?

Tampa was a team lead by their offense, all year.

Hedman is just underwhelming right now. He's already a good defenseman, but he is capable of much much more, and he hasn't progressed as much as many expected.

Dont be surprised when the same things are being said about Larsson a few years from now. Hedman is progressing fine, its people expectations that are unreasonable.

Happy times for Team Sweden. Such an intriguing pool of youngsters, anyone's guess is just as good as the other. You have to think the top10 picks; Hedman, Larsson, Ekman-Larsson and Brodin have the highest probabilities to become the complete package though.

I just got to watch Brodin play the J20 tournament in Lake Placid, and he was performing just as well on both sides of the rink as Hedman, OEL and Larsson ever was on the same level.

Out of the four, Ekman-Larsson strikes me as the best offensive guy no doubt about that, but also the one who needs to work on his defense the most. Hedman has his giant frame, Larsson has a mix of everything and Brodin has unbelievable hockey sense. But they're all (relatively)complete players as they can/will play in every situation. It's just a matter of who's going to take it to the next level.

Making a list is incredibly hard given that they're born 90/91/92/93, but I'll give it a shot:
Larsson
Hedman
Brodin
Ekman-Larsson

Chris Phillips was -35 last year, he's been a plus player his whole career. A large portion of the awful plus/minus stats was that Brian Elliott gave up a 40 foot beachball almost every game. Clearly he has lots to work on, but the potential is enormous and the skill level is in the upper echelon for Dmen. He's an outstanding athlete, he'll probably figure it out.

The fans that watch him play game in game out can be pretty critical of his play in spurts. But ever since he's come into the game, all we've seen is a consistent upward progression...the raw talent should continue to evolve for at least a couple more years. And he'll mature physically a little too.

Most unbiased post ever.

Larsson
Hedman
Ekman-Larsson
Rundblad
Karlsson
Erixon

They're all pretty good. No shame in being the last one picked here.

I don't have that high expectations. I see a 6'6" behemoth that is amazing skater and thinks the game as well as anyone. I thought he'd be a little more dynamic at this point.

As for Larsson I don't think he's going to set the world on fire either. He's going to be a good defenseman next season, earlier then anyone else in his draft class, but I don't see him ever dominating games. In terms of playing style I think the TSN Sami Salo comparison was awful, but I can picture him having a similar impact during games. Rock defensively, completely unnoticed, but effective during the powerplay and quietly putting up puts.

Agreed. He is still a baby.

I dont think he has the upside of some of the other guys, but he will be a very good d man for many years barring injury.

A little OT but how do you rate Klefbom vs Brodin?

I think Brodin may be a little over-rated tbh.

Unless he gets quite a bit bigger I dont see his game translating all that well to the nhl.

I'd say his game is suited for the NHL and won't have a problem translating.

He won't need to be too much bigger(maybe 20lbs) with his hockey sense, skating, puckhandling and slipperiness, at least in my opinion.

Larsson vs Brodin debate reminds me of the Phaneuf vs Sutter debate.

No kidding. And the only one who is actually a good comparison to Lidstrom is never mentioned.

Hedman
Karlsson
Larsson
Rundblad
Brodin

Just my terribly uninformed opinion, they're all pretty good.
