I think Paul Coffey has a son on the '98 Marlies. Todd Bertuzzi's son plays for the Detroit Little Caesers minor atoms.

Alex Talcott (Honeybaked Midget Major) just gave Michigan a verbal commitment last night. I saw his name pop up a few times in the previous thread, so thought I'd pass that along.

Welsh is more likely going to the NCAA or else he would've just stayed on Don Mills.

Welsh left because he knew he wouldn't get any ice time playing behind Bateman and Nurse and he couldn't get a release to play anywhere here - he wanted to go to the Marlies or Senators but Don Mills wouldn't let him go. He might take the O route, but I'd bet on him staying in the US and going the NCAA route.

Watching all the Boston PlayOffs for NewEngland Prep School. Day 2.

Great Hockey will give some scouting reports on players later.

Welsh - Took advantage apparently of getting started a year earlier.

Standout teams thus far, Milton, Salisbury, Kent, Lawrence, Gunnery, Nobles, Cushings. Will report on some players when over.

sorry I should have added this info to my above post, for clarification

Barrie acquires defenceman

The Barrie colts and the Niagara Ice dogs have agreed to a trade this afternoon.

Mackenzie Braid, a 1993 Born defenceman who was originally selected in the 11th Round of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, has been traded to the Barrie Colts.

In exchange, the IceDogs pick up a conditional 11th Round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection. The Pick will become a 6th Round pick in 2012 if Braid commits to the Colts.

Braid currently plays for Salisbury Prep school in Connecticut.

So I believe it was a last minute decision.

How does this hockey compared to the elite Minor Midget AAA teams? Thanks.

As far as the GTHL playoffs go, could any following closely let me know what the Marlies/Majors and Flyers/Canadians series currently stand at, please? I checked game center and they have a playoff game scheduled for Tuesday night with "to be determined", so I'm guessing the final is just about set.

Its Marlboros vs. Jr Canadians in the finals.

The Marlboros pretty much ran over the Majors.

The Don Mills/Jr. Canadiens series was quite entertaining. It came down to the final 5 minutes with the Canadiens 3-2 win today.

Yeesh. I didn't expect to hear that. Good on the Canadiens for making another GTHL final.

What happened to the vaunted Flyers? Thanks for the info, and going to try to make the Tuesday game at 9:30.

They had the game won buy Spencer Martin made one of the better saves of the year in the last few minutes.

Its hockey, sometimes thats just what happens.

ETA Barrie/Kingston

Hello,

Went to the deciding game between Barrie and Kingston tonight. It ended up going into triple O/T, but I had to leave after the first extra period. According to the OMHA site, it appears as thought the Colts came through in the end.

It was a very exciting game. I thought he Colts were the better team throughout, but an unfortunate goal in the first (Rowe came out to play the puck and was caught out of position) and some penalty trouble for Barrie in the third had Kingston winning throughout most of the game.

Bigras had an especially strong game for Colts blocking several shots, including one that would have certainly found the back of the net. He also scored one goal and depending on the official scoring a couple assists. Backus was really throwing the body (at one point almost putting a Frontenac into the bench) and had a great scoring chance with a minute left that went just wide.

I noticed Moodie as one of the better players on the Frontenacs. He was very fast, full of energy, and appeared to be one of the vocal leaders of the team. He really got them fired up to start the third.

Looking forward to the OMHA final now...either YSE or Whitby next.

Cheers,
Shawn

It will be a really good series between Marlies and Jr. C. I think the Marlies will win the series.

NHL Bloodlines

"Mike Gartner's son Dylan plays for South Central Ontario Coyotes"

i have been watching this kid play since he was 7 years old and i can tell you that he is a late bloomer just like his dad. He stood out to me on his team this year as being on of the best forwards (Morrison was also quite good) ... and i have heard that both London and Ptbo are talking to him potentially ... has anyone else seen Gartner play this year and can give some feedback? i personally wouldnt take him in any high rounds , but this kid has some MAD potential and he knows what it takes with a Hall of Famer for a dad/coach...

thanks,

Bruce

Saw him 2 times early in the year when my sons team played them. Persoanlly I was not really impressed. He does not skate that well which is surprising. He moves around the ice like his dad...has a decent shot but not accurate. Seems to struggle a bit near the boards.

anyways, I'm no scout just an observer.

Anybody have insight on goalie Ken Appleby out of North Bay? How are his numbers looking compared to others?

I do believe that Welland, St. Catharines and Halton have moved forward to the OMHA Championships this coming weekend.

Apparently Oakville filed a protest against SC. A suspended coach is accused of being in the dressing room before and during the game.

That would be unfortunate.

St. Catharines won, which in my mind shows that they are deserving of going.

Disipline the coach for his actions, dont penalize the kids.

That is also assuming that the Coach did indeed do what was said, which would have to be 100% proven.

As an asside, I wish we could just allow the kids play on the ice to dictate things, and not backroom policits.

Either way, not the place for that discussion, lets focus on the players.

I agree let players play, BUT stand with rules need to be enforced attitude.

If Oakville filed the protest and can show that the SC suspended coach was indeed in contact with players, than SC should NOT be allowed to participate in this week end.

Rules are in place, and the assistant coach WOULD and should know the rules, especially at the Minor Midget Level.

Oakville deserves to move forward. Looking forward to being there this weekend. Boarding flight today for tomorrows GTHL game.
