Isles are pretty scummy

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nhl/feed...ainst-penguins

Seeing how many players in the NHL have/ do/ will suffer from head trauma injuries, it is great to see the Islanders taking the time to celebrate what they accomplished that night. Celebrating actions which landed them fines from the league.

IMO this is somewhat a dead horse issue. But, it is like the last kick as rigamortis sets in.

Maybe a bar in the Burgh should have a best "Glass Jaw: DiPietro vs. Johnson" reenactment?

We already had a thread about this that ended up getting locked.

Yes lets grow a pair and celebrate a game that was an embarrassment for the entire sport of hockey.

I dont see what the problem is really. Aside from the fact that I already committed to attending the Indiana Pacers re-enactment of 'Ron Artest vs The Fans' that night, I'd go watch a replay of a hockey game.

Pathetic, but not surprising when you consider how much of a joke the Islanders franchise is these days.

I am not really sure why the Isles' want to make this some highlight to celebrate, but if they want to drag this out, I am sure a lot of Pens' players will be happy to remind them next time that the teams play. I had no clue that the team that won cups with players like Bossy, with some current players to look forward to like Tavares, really had sunk so low. I guess we know now.

I am kind of surprised that the league has not stepped in on this though. Honestly, if anything symbolizes garage league, it was that game, and this joke of a franchise running some honoring of the game months later. Gretzky once called the Devils a Mickey Mouse franchise. This team is trying to set the bar much lower than that and the league should be embarrased.

I agree. Here is my take on the game.

The islanders wanted to do revenge and they did. They scored at least 6 goals in the first half of the game. They had a couple of revenge fights in the first period. Ok. It is over. They now have a chance to completely embarrass the Penguins. They have the penguins right where they want them and they have a great chance of going double digits and completely embarrassing the penguins. Here is one of the elite teams losing to the islanders to a double digit shutout. That would have been something for the islanders to be proud about and would have been a great islander game to reair and celebrate.

However, that is not what happened. After going 6-0, the islanders continued to be physical to the point of suspensions and injured a player. They showed themselves to be nothing but a bunch of goons. Instead of embarrassing the penguins, the islanders embarrassed themselves. The main thing to remember about this game should have been the embarrassing shutout loss to the islanders, not the fights. That's all what everyone outside of islanders fan base is going to remember.

So, they will celebrate. They will celebrate the game that they were allowed to act like a bunch of goons. Instead of letting their goals speak revenge, they used their fists. One or two fights was expected, but they took their fists to a whole new level.

As I said, the islanders had a chance to completely embarrass Penguins by scoring a double digit shutout and all they did was embarrass themselves.

I doubt Penguins would have got a goal in the game. They were absolutely horrible on the powerplay in the game.

EDIT: One last thing, the islanders are such a bad team right now, they can't even do revenge right.

October 27, Islanders first stop in Pittsburgh since the event that happened. I can't wait to see how they are received by the fans.

While i agree with you that the islander should not Celebrate this game in anyway. It WAS FAR from a EMBARRASSMENT for the entire sport.

An Islanders viewing party at "Champions"... There's an oxymoron for you if you've never seen one.

The franchise intentionally called up a bunch of goons for this game, all because DiPietro was a moron and ran out to challenge Johnson. No secret there, and the result was predictable. Now the franchise celebrates it with this event that makes a wrestling match look like highbrow entertainment. Neither of these things were spontaneous, both were planned and intentional. How anyone can defend this is beyond me.

Like I said, I hope that the Pens remember this the next time the two teams meet.

Isles had viewing parties for other games, where was the threads for them? Isles won 9-3 in an entertaining and fight filled game, it was obviously going to be replayed on MSG when they do top games of the year.

I can tell you why. The isles have nothing else to celebrate from this year. This got the Isles on national TV and everyone was talking about them. This game made them feel special.

Times like this make me glad I am a Pens and and not an Isles fan.

Sorry, what goons were called up? And did Johnson not come down into the Islanders zone?

Wins in February in seasons where your team misses the playoffs generally don't go into history unless someone hits some statistical milestone or someone does something especially stupid.

It was the Gillies thing. Not even the elbow itself (as bad as it was, it happens a lot in the NHL) but the taunting from the hallway. Cosmetically, that looked as bad as any iPhone youtube video from some Junior B game.

You'd think they'd hold a viewing party for one of FOUR Stanley Cup wins, celebrating the team's history and reminding the fans that one day, that glory can be rekindled.

But no. Let's show a regular season game in February against a team that had 6 guys in the lineup who will never again play in the NHL.

Yep - this is definitely laughable. I find it hilarious that the Islanders want to celebrate and relive their own mediocrity. It reminds me of a recovering alcoholic going through and doing a video compilation of their top 10 blackout moments.

Pens fans are ready to move on from that pathetic excuse for hockey, but in the land of the Islanders that game was somehow a shining beacon of hope for their fan-base. Delivering a blatant headshot to a promising young player, which the NHL is trying to crack down against, and then taunting a player afterwards.

Oh and Matt Martin going all Todd Bertuzzi on Talbot? Cmon folks... that is just great entertainment!

Real classy guys... lets keep that one on constant rotation at MSG plus.. Just shows how far apart the 2 franchises are in terms of class.

No he didn't. Johnson never even crossed his own blueline.

The taunting and the fact that he's throwing punches at someone that's essentially unconscious. That was one of the most ridiculous things I've seen in hockey, and I've seen some crazy stuff over the years.

Because they were good clean wins for the islanders. This game was different than the other games you guys aired. This was a low class game that lead to multiple suspensions and the isles were looking to injure players. I don't think anything is entertaining about intentionally looking to hurt someone.

If you would have won the game 9-3 without doing all the fights, the first couple were ok, it would have been acceptable. It was all the unnecessary violence that happened during the game that caused this game to be an embarrassment If you think embarrassing yourselves and making a mockery of hockey is a game to celebrate, then that is your problem.

One side note, the last game in December where the Isles beat the Penguins 2-1 in a shootout. That game was also the game that Crosby's streak was snapped would have been a better game to air than fight fest. It was clean and hard fought win for the Isles.
