LOL, what happens if one of them gets KO'ed in the first round? I guess they could just air some pre-lims.

since a fight only takes a half-hour (technically 25 minutes, not including the between-round breaks of course), they must be pumping a lot of production work into it to stretch it out to a full hour.

there's always the risk in that of course...boxing is the same way. They have those one-fight broadcasts and (although it doesn't happen so much in boxing) I always wonder what they have planned if the fight's over in like 2 rounds.

EDIT: at least with the potential for some good prelim fights then yeah they could air one or two of them, depending on how quickly someone was KO'd. I wouldn't bet on an early KO or TKO in this matchup though!

Which is funny considering when they announced the card Lorenzo was stating how they were going to spend little time on the build-up of the fights and just go out there and do it.

What's wrong with seeing 3,4 pre-selected good fights? It's a win-win for me!

Nothing really, just would've been nicer to have two fights live, but to see this HW championship it's definitely worth it. Considering this title fight has the potential of running 30+ minutes, even adding another potential 3 round fight would really put the squeeze on them getting their ad revenue in, and understandable why only the one fight will be guaranteed to air.

Yeah things sure changed. They went from "two fights, back-to-back, no titles and no promo" to "one title fight with lots of promo".

Oh well, I'm cool with it. I'm guessing Mir/Overeem gets tossed into the Nov 19th main event, unless they were going to do Koscheck/Belfort or something like that.

This was not only the best decision for this show in particular, but really ticks all the boxes for an exciting, influential, and perhaps sport changing decision. Zuffa got this one 100% right.

These two guys will instantly be stars if the fight is even moderately good. Or even if somebody gets knocked out in a minute or two.

Absolutely nothing! Especially when you consider they are aiming for the non-hardcores as the main market. The hardcore fans' will find a way (whether it be FX or facebook) to watch the fights regardless.

I'd imagine they'll air a good portion of the event on the picture box, sportsnet & fx for the co-main and what would usually be the main card.

Yes, you're right. I didn't even think about the different time zones and should've realized that he'd be making the announcement from Vegas.

I love this annoucement and can't wait for the fight just like any other MMA fan. I'm big fan of both fighters but I like Cain better and I think he is the better all around fighter. He has to able to withstand the onslaught JDS will unleash while standing though. This could be a huge night for MMA.

Exactly. The UFC's PPV numbers have been slipping, and the way to grow the sport is to hook people with free shows. This was exactly what they should've done. Personally I think they should've included something like Ortiz-Franklin and made it a 2-fight card, but this is still really good. I've somewhat questioned the direction the UFC was going lately so I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by this one.

Really excited about this. I was already looking forward to this fight and now it's on free TV!

I have to say though, I am a little disappointed. Just a little bit. I started reading all of the rumours that were out there and I thought we might get to see Overeem in the UFC or the return of Dan Henderson on FOX and then a week later would be the HW title fight on PPV. I hope they still have a big fight planned for the San Jose card.

Only thing that will suck about this is that they only have the one fight for the entire hour. There will be a lot of commericals and other unnecessary things on the broadcast just to fill time.

I think they'll wind up sticking non-draws like Overeem/Bendo/Rory Mac/Edgar/Bones on Fox shows to try to cultivate them as future stars. I know the Reem is on the wrong side of 30 but putting those guys in one good Fox fight gives them star power the UFC desperately is in need of. Buyrates would definitely shoot up.

I wouldn't be surprised at all for Bones/Rashad to be on Fox, if in fact Bones beats Rampage.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see Hendo fight in San Jose.

All it takes is one big and good fight on Fox to make somebody into a star. And the show on Fox should be used as a gateway show for fans to build relationships with fighters who aren't draws, so that they can move those fighters into PPV main events and people can buy them. I'm just glad Zuffa realizes this.

Moving forward i bet the fox shows will be contender matches as headliners leading into title fight PPVs.
