Betting on the sens to win the cup this year?

I'm interested in putting some money on the sens to win the Stanley Cup this year.

Before everyone laughs me off, I figure:

1) NHL is a crazy unpredictable league
2) Sens are underrated right now, and the payout probably would never get bigger
3) We've got at least a few potential breakout/comeback players this year (basically our whole team is new or coming off a lousy season)
4) There's at least one team that surprises each year.
5) Most importantly, it will add some enjoyment for my season if I know I've got a few bucks on the line that I'm not afraid to lose.

I know some casinos in Vegas will take bets on the Stanley Cup winner. Are there any legal ways to bet on the Stanley Cup winner in Canada? Anyone have any experience on this? Anyone know where I can find the current odds?

And, for a fun discussion...does anybody else agree with me that the sens have at least have an outside chance of winning the cup this year?

I don't see a Cup this year. We did a great job in the draft this year and to be completely honest I would rather Ottawa flop hard and get a top 3 pick (preferably Yakupov) instead of fluctuating all year and not making a strong playoff run.

I think pro line would be your best legal bet.

Anderson must win the Vezina
Alfie must play like he's 34 again
Spezza must win the Hart
Filatov must turn into the superstar everyone used to think he could be
The rookies must have the quickest learning curve ever
Karlsson must play Duncan Keithlike

if alll that happens, I'd say we have a good shot this year.

As long as it's not a tonne of money, I say go for it.
The pay off would be pretty great, as unlikely as it is. I'm not into the whole tanking thing, and if money on the line gets you more excited about the season, I see nothing wrong with it.

Any legal options for doing this? Does Pro-Line take Stanley Cup Winner type bets?

If you are serious about this, there are some online legal betting sites, such as Bet365

I kind of disagree with this logic,

hypothetically speaking, if we squeek in this year.....anything can happen.

In the playoffs....all bets are off; passion and heart(with some good goaltending) trumps logic sometimes.

I wouldn't put money on the Sens making the playoffs let alone winning the cup.

It really depends on the odds. I would do it if they were astronomical and the minimum bet isn't something like 100 dollars.

I'd rather forget about years we played 'meh' than remember years where we bombed and got "Daigled"

Odds on the sens winning the cup are 66 to 1. $50 bet pays $3300.

I don't know where you got those odds, but that is truly a terrible line. They are a major underdog to even make the playoffs, and then a huge underdog if they do. The chances of the Sens winning the Cup this year are somewhere between 200-to-1 and 500-to-1, IMO.

I disagree with this. There is a correlation between regular season standing and playoff success; low seeds are lucky to make it out of the 2nd round, let alone win the Cup.

Apparently the sens are the least likely team to win the cup next year according to the odds makers. LOL

Keep in mind a couple of things on sports odds

First - Odds are understated so that the house doesn't lose - so if the odds range from 65:1 to 100:1 then the actual odds would be much higher.

Second - If all teams were equal, the odds to win the cup would be 29:1. So a rebuilding team would rightly command several multiples higher.

Third and most important, the odds don't actually reflect the odds of winning - they reflect the projected amount of money by betters. The goal being to evenly distribute the bets across all teams which will guarantee a profit margin for the house. Popular teams like Detroit attract more bettors and drive the odds for that team lower than normal. The reverse is true for unpopular teams.

From oddsmaker.com:
Those are all over the place. Might be some value in LA or NYR. BUF and NJ aren't too bad.
