Matt Bradley: Semin "just doesn't care"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...sELJ_blog.html

Quote:
Asked to describe the discipline problems without naming names:

ďI donít mind saying Alexander Seminís name, because heís one guy who has so much talent, he could easily be the best player in the league, and just for whatever reason, just doesnít care.

ďWhen youíve got a guy like that, you need him to be your best player, or one of your best players, and when he dosenít show up, you almost get the sense that he wants to be back in Russia. Thatís tough to win when youíve got a guy like that whoís supposed to be your best player not being your best player, or one of your best players."

I agree. Semin has a hell of a lot of talent and should be 50 goal scorer every year or a Hossa like two way player but just doesn't want to be.

Maybe he doesn't like being in Ovechkin's shadow?

Yeah, it's easy to call out a player after you've left the team.

His opinion about Ovi is also interesting

Is Alex Ovechkin all in for winning a Cup, or does he have growing and maturing to do?
Quote:
"I never worry about Ovi. Heís an all-in guy. Heís young, he makes his mistakes, the same as anyone would. I often try to put myself in his position. And you've got to remember, heís 25 years old, heís got a guaranteed $120 million, heís on top of the world, and he still for the most part makes the right decisions. I donít worry about him, I donít worry about most of the guys on that team. Thatís why I think in the end theyíll do well.

ďOvi has some growing up to do as far as taking care of himself and things like that, but as far as his want to win, he really does just want to win the games, and he doesnít care if he scores or not. That isnít an act. Heís a great guy, great player. Iíd never say anything bad about him."

I see no reason why Bradley would make that up.

Wow. Those are strong words. I have to think he's being straight-up honest there.

A pretty serious indictment of Semin's role on the team.

Not the first time a former teammate has had negative things to say about Semin.

It's still not easy. I'm impressed with Bradley's honesty. It would be horrible to call out a teammate like that to the media, so thats why this stuff sometimes comes out after a player leaves.

I buy everything Bradley says. Off the ice I see Crosby taking far better care of his body (better diet/less partying). But on the ice their isn't a guy who wants to win more than Ovechkin.

And is anyone really surprised to hear that about Semin?

Nor do I. In fact, as a Capitals fan, I completely agree. Semin has absolutely no heart and I hate that. Bradley is right when he says Semin could be the best player in the league if he wanted to. However, I'm not fond of players calling out former teammates the second they're out of the organization. What good does it do? Why not say something when it matters?

If you read the whole transcription of the interview, it makes the comments about Semin seem more genuine, and not a "trash the organization on the way out of the door" type of thing that we've seen before. He says for the most part the organization is fine, and that he understand Bruce's dilemma on distribution of ice time, and he loves Ovy.

He singles out Semin. I found it his comments interesting, not tabloidy.

As much blood as Matt Bradley gave up for this team I have no problem with him stating his opinion publicly. He's merely confirmed what most CAPS fans are frustrated with and that's the Semin's talent is insane but his heart and mind are just not in it all the time.

Yeah, I'd say OV needs to take better care of himself.

Could score as many goals as he wanted, no place on my team. Arrogant ("What's so special about Crosby?"), too soft for the playoffs and fights like a girl.

You mean there's a Russian player who has a ton of skill and doesn't care about games much? Shocking! It's not like we've seen it happen numerous times before.. (Yashin and Kovalev come to mind as recent ones. On the Habs we have Kostitsyn.. not Russian but close)
