Surprisingly Sami Vatanen declined to attend the camp. He said it wouldn't be really beneficial for him since he is serving the mandatory military service and the he doesn't want to miss any of the games in JYP. The regular season starts next thursday in Finland.

Too bad but I understand him for not wanting to miss games.
The Ducks released their roster for next week’s rookie camp at Anaheim Ice, which will be a truncated version of camps they’ve held in the past.
...there will be no scrimmages or games as much of the camp will be focused on off-ice conditioning and power skating.
In other words, this isn’t a real rookie camp and it will be closed to the public..
Sounds like budget cuts to me.
It also sounds a lot like the prospect camp they had after the draft.
Vatanen not coming makes sense. If he's definitely not coming to NA this year, and since it's basically like the prospect camp that (I think) he's been to a few times already... what's the point? And besides, it saves the team money on travel costs.
Teemu is lagging again... I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit out training camp making up his mind.
If I remember right, he's been saying that he will attend the camp, give his knee the final test and make the final call after the camp. He will play if his knee will let him.

1) As a Windsor season ticket holder, what's the expectations of Fowler for you guys this year? He looked good when I seen him last year.
2) How good is Getzlaf defensively? I hear he is underrated but can't seem to find any articles that state how he is defensively. I was wondering if anyone knew of any?

Expectations for Fowler are quite high...it was an impressive rookie season to say the least. He does need to improve on that atrocious plus/minus, but we all know that is not the best indicator of a defender.
Getzlaf is quite good defensively and has played significant penalty killing minutes in the past. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any articles that talk about this issue per se.

1). I think expectations are that he continues to move forward with his game. Improved strength, experience, and a more complete game.
2). I'd say Getzlaf is above average for a center. He's not a standout defensively, but he is dependable, and his reach, hands, and physical strength all lend him to being able get the puck and get it out of the zone with control.
