Jack Campbell to NJ

We have a lot of goalies in our system, but Campbell has true elite potential. But remember, he's still a 'PROSPECT' 'GOALIE'. What would it take?

EDIT: I mean't to put "Value", not "Proposal".

What are your intentions here? You really emphasized 'PROSPECT' 'GOALIE', Campbell was taken 11th overall one year ago and isn't exactly a reclamation project at this point. Pony up, Dallas will "Varlamov" someone before they give him up on the cheap, so be ready to pay up.

Emphasizing "prospect goalie" doesn't mean you get him for nothing. Dallas would want a big time prospect coming right back.

Goaltenders don't have much value, but that doesn't mean they're all available cheap. The value to the team - that he might pan out as a top goaltender - outweighs the value in the league - where you can find a goaltender like Niemi, sign him for cheap, and he's "good enough" to win.

Maybe it's just coincidence that goaltender prospects are traded so infrequently? and when they are traded, it's often laughed at soon after (Rask for Raycroft, Varlamov for ______?)..

I think Dallas will want to wait a year before dealing Campbell, and If I remember correctly, they are loaded with goalie prospects.

After drafting the kid so high, they will go down all other routes prior to trading Campbell. They will also want to see if he can rebound from his down year this past season.

If you're looking for a goalie prospect, Dallas will probably be forced to move some in the coming years. There's a few promising goalies in the Dallas system. There's chance Campbell and another emerge and create a Price/Halak situation.

But the odds of getting Campbell before he's played an NHL game? Very slim. It would take over payment, simply because Dallas did not invest such a high pick only to trade it. Remember, the Campbell pick has been meet with controversy because Dallas, very thin on blueliner prospects, passed on Fowler and Gromley at the time. They believed in him then, and there's no indication they won't be looking to him in the future.

You'd have to pay full price for Campbell- so, how much value do you think an 11th overall pick has? Lots.

I liked the emphasis on "goalie" and "prospect" though, to try dashing his overall value.
Thank you, come again.

It'd be a ridiculous overpayment from our end.

As for the OP, the Devils have 4 decent goalie prospects in the system now. Campbell might be the blue chip right now, but since developing goalies is often a crap shoot, trading for him probably isn't worth the price it would take. I know I'd rather just stick with the goalies we have and hope one of them develops into a starter.

It would cost a 1st + another pick. He was a top 15 pick a year ago, so Dallas would have to reclaim the pick they spent on him. The extra pick would be the incentive. In reality, there's no reason to Campbell to be traded, and we would be overpaying for him in the first place.

They'd probably want the 'PROSPECT' 'DEFENSEMAN' you drafted this year.

They're just saying that's what it would take. Parise is obviously a joke (I hope), but Tedenby could probably fetch him - but we won't be trading him either and that's the argument you're making.

I'd trade him for Josefson. Don't think the Devils would do that though.

I'm not advocating trading for Campbell but:

If it were to happen, and a prospect of the caliber it would take to get Campbell was involved, it'd have to be a D man not named Larsson. We are too thin at wing and center prospects to trade Tedenby, Josefson, Henrique, etc.

You wouldn't even be willing to trade Tedenby for Campbell?

I'd certainly go after Tedenby, would be tough though.
