What has Kadri done to prove he's worth more than Backlund?
well the fact he has basically excelled in every league he was in. Both in AHL and OHL, he has been over or very very close to the PPG.
I would think Gunnarsson would be the center piece for a trade like that.
For those interested in Bozak, he maybe our third line center but he has the skill to be a very good second line center, but no not a first line as someone said.

You kinda missed the point. Backlund has done well at other levels as well. Kadri isn't proven. He has potential. So does Backlund...
And Bozak is NOT a second line center. He's a good bottom 6 center who can chip in offensively and play top 6 when injuries occur

Really? Do you really want to compare?
In 29 games in the NHL, Kadri had half the points Backlund had in 73 games.
In AHL, Backlund got 32 points in 54 games, while Kadri got 41 points in 44 games, and he was injured towards the end, that's being he was a rookie in the league.
Kadri was horrible in his first call up in the NHL, went down, and when he came back he was ready and way more mature and defensively responsible. This year he is going to be in a dog fight with the leaf's bottom six role because our top six is set.
Not to mention Kadri is also younger than him as well.
Bozak has proved from time to time he can perform in the top 6, last year he was brutal but he was EXCELLENT third line centre, and with his development he can be given the role of a really good centre. Everyone projected he was going to be a first line center, but really it was unfair to put that guy a role like that when he doesn't have the skill for but there is absolutely no denying he can perform in the second line.
Only reason Bozak is playing down there because of Grabovski's rise.

In Backlunds first 23 Games he had 10 points, 0.43 PPG
In Kadri's first 29 Games he had 13 Points, 0.44 PPG
----------------------------------------
Last season :
Kadri averaged 15:00 Minutes of ice-time per game.
Backlund averaged 12:00 Minutes of ice-time per game.
Kadri averaged 2:30 Minutes of PP Ice time-per game.
Backlund averaged 0:30 Seconds of PP Ice time-per game.
----------------------------------------
Backlund is certainly the superior defensive player, and already projects to be at worst a 3rd line center in the future.
Kadri certainly does not project to be a third line checker, so should his offense fail to materialize at an NHL level he would become far less valuable then Backlund.
They hold similar value at this time, it's fairly obvious.

Exactly. I'd rather take the safer bet with the same upside. It's crazy to think that a non TO prospect could ever turn into anything...
i think kadri is more talented than backlund and will most likely have more points over their careers. kadri will probably peak as a 1b centre, backlund as a solid second line centre.
having said that, it's too early to compare the two. backlund has been playing on the flames 4th line for the past few seasons flanked by grinders. hopefully this season, backlund will be able to play a more offensive role.
kadri will need about two more seasons to solidify himself as a top 6 forward.

Backlund was brought up to work on his defensive game and get stronger on the puck. He wasn't brought up to score points.
Add on an extra 2 minutes a game of PP TOI to Backlund's shifts and obviously he is going to score much more.
As for Bozak:
TOI/game: 19:21
Those are easily top 6 minutes of Bozak. He's just not that good.
After having watched both Kadri and Backlund play at the NHL, I was much more impressed with what Backlund brought to the game. His 2 way play improved by leaps and bounds over the course of the season. When he was given time on the top line, he didn't just leach points. He brought creativity and offensive awareness.
Right now Backlund looks set to become a 50-60 point 2 way centre with the possibility of becoming much more. I was not impressed with Kadri. Kadri leached a punch of points in the PP and did not much else. As you said, he had almost 50% of the points, but only 30% of the goals.
Not a chance I give up Backlund for Kadri or Bozak.

I would argue that they have the same upside. Kadri has more offensive potential. He is far more naturally skilled then Backlund in the offensive aspect of the game. Backlund will be better defensively but all that means is he might find himself a main stay on the 3rd line. Kadri on the otherhand is built for a top six role.

Kadri definitely has higher offensive potential, but as "upside" I'd say a 70-80 point one dimensional center and a 55-65 point 2 way center are pretty equal or even favoring the one that can play defense

One of Kadri's main problems as many know, has been his strength. He has worked to get his weight up, but despite a summer working out, was clearly not ready to compete at the NHL level. Over the course of the year, he got stronger on the puck, which played a big role in his second stint with the Leafs.
The year difference between Kadri and Backlund makes a huge difference in this regard.

backlund is also swedish, who are notorious for late development
