Things happened so fast. His historic election result seemed to be just yesterday. And today...

Life can be very cruel.

RIP Jack. My condolences to the family.

I work for the NDP, and one of my favourite anecdotes about Jack was given to me by a fellow habsfan NDP staffer. Back when Jack was a city councillor in Toronto he came to speak at McGill (where he did his undergrad), my buddy listen to his speech and then approached Jack after the crowd had dissipated. He asked "Jack I noticed you didn't get asked the most important question of the day. You are a city councillor and live in Toronto, but you grew up in Montreal, so are you a Leafs fan or a Habs fan?"

Jack looked around the room (checking if the coast was clear) leaned in and said "If I was a leafs fan I'd be mayor now."

Canada and the World lost one of its heroes today.

The most down-to-earth politician of the last decade (+). Definitely a great guy, who'll be missed by many.

My deepest sympathies to the Layton family, having to battle cancer now for 3 years his letter was inspiring for me. It's often easy to forget about the positive things in life yet he found a way even in his last moments. A true class act!

RIP

Even though I dont agree with his views, he seemed very sincere and passionate. Canada needs more politicians like him. **** cancer.

RIP Mr. Layton.
