I guess HF agrees with us that Larsson should have gone first overall. I'm curious to see what Huberdeau gets.

Of course, the rating Larsson is irrelevant. He is not guaranteed to become an elite player just because he got a 9.0, he still has a long way to go.

Ovechkin 9A, Parise 8A. Not sure about Kovalchuk.

Since Kesler was a 6.5B that means Henrique....

If he'd stayed in North America, I probably would have graded him higher. His age played a factor too. I haven't seen him play, but obviously his numbers back-up what he can do. I think he actualy will come back to NA as early as next season, but by then his age will make him not eligible to be on HF anymore.

I had him as an 8.0 A the last two times he was graded. Thought I may have had him as an 8.5, but I don't think I've ever given another prospect an A ever.

I love going back and reading these:

Quote:
1. (1) Zach Parise, C, 8.0 A

Parise remains entrenched as the top prospect in the Devils organization, but this will be the last time he is eligible for the list. While he has not produced the type of numbers that super rookies Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby have, Parise has settled in nicely as a regular in New Jersey. At the Olympic break, Parise has played in 57 of the Devils 58 games and has eight goals and 12 assists for a total of 20 points. His defensive play has been somewhat spotty as evidenced by his -10 rating, but Parise is still learning the intricacies of the NHL on a game to game basis. Parise opened his NHL career by scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist in his NHL debut in the Devils 5-1 season opening victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Parise struggled to get much ice time under since-resigned Devils head coach Larry Robinson during much of November and December, but since GM Lou Lamoriello took over behind the bench, Parise has played much more and seems to be gaining confidence through each passing game. Currently playing on a line with Sergei Brylin and Grant Marshall, the Devils have eased the burden somewhat on Parise by playing him on left wing frequently, which is mainly to help him with his defensive responsibilities. Parise’s rookie season has not been as splashy as many expected, but the Devils still have extremely high hopes for him. As he continues to get NHL experience and mature both mentally and physically, expect Parise’s numbers to continue to improve gradually throughout the final stretch of the season.

He could be a poor man's Kesler type down the road. He could maybe, maybe top out at 30-30, but 25-25 is more realistic.

Pretty crazy to look back on that and know that only 4 or 5 of those guys have panned out in the NHL at all.

Makes me a little more cautious with predicting how our current guys will do.

It's very true. As optimistic as I am about this current group, not every one is going to reach their projection and upside. Some of those names blow my mind....Ahren Nittel....blast from the past! haha.

No problem! It's always fun to go back and dig around in the archives. I couldn't even tell you what the top 20 was last year!

I like Henrique he looked good in Albany and the game he played last year against the bruins and I know 1 game does not prove anything but I still think he will be a solid 3rd maybe 2nd liner when all is said and done.

Yep, and it's Lou's job to know in advance which guys will, and which guys won't. Very tough.

I'm hoping that Larsson and Merrill both pan out and become everything we hoped they could be.

Look out at if they both reach full potential. I never understood why Merrill fell so far in the draft? An off ice issue or something does anyone know what it was exactly?

Yes, there was some incident which made other teams think he was less mature and possibly a behaviour risk. Lou evidently didn't think it was a big deal, and took him for his talent.

I remember when we drafted Merrill...I was with some friends downtown chicago at the apple store dicking around on the ipads. I was on the NHL site hitting refresh as the picks came in that second round

Definitely fist pumped.

Looking to be a great decision so far. I loved watching the frozen four this year and a select few games broadcasted through cablevision he looked very calm solid and productive on both ends of the ice.
