From @NHLWiki on Tweeeeeeter. Normally I wouldn't quote a Twitter account, but this one's been pretty solid. Feel free to change to "Speculation" if deemed necessary.
#NHL *Rumor*- Although there were some talks regarding #Devils Dainius Zubrus, got word he's off the market due to T.Zajac's injury.
Thoughts? Was he redundant? More cost-cutting? Heavy push towards the youth movement? Etc?
I agree. He may have been on the block back when, but once Rolston and Whitey were gone that was probably the end of any thoughts of moving Zub. Must be old news because I can't see the sense in trading Zubrus now.
Cost-cutting...we've been speculating about the Devils' financial woes this whole offseason and why we basically gave away Rolston and White. It wouldn't be too farfetched, if you do believe the Devils' ownership issues are kicking in, to think Zubrus would be on the block. Especially since he's a bit overpaid for what he provides. People kill Clarkson's contract as if it's the worst in the world but he's a 30-35 point player who plays physical and gets $2.6 million, Zubrus is a 40-point player does the 'little things' above average and gets $3.4.
I find it a little hard to believe he was really ever on the block to begin with. If we got rid of Zubrus, our centre depth would still be dangerously thin, even with a healthy Zajac.
He was on the block last year, so I imagine he started the off-season in the same situation. I imagine moving Rolston's contract took the heat off the expresso machine, though. And the loss of Zajac makes it a moot point.
If the Devils want to trade Zubrus for cost cutting measures this is going to be a long season! I am a big fan of Zubrus even though I wish he scored more but I get what he provides to this team (or any team for that matter). Hopefully this is old news.
If zubrus gets dumped, I will be 100% on board with the budget fears. I think Parise will be a goner, but hopefully that is false
We are doing nothing more than speculating so I would say if we are dumping salary it is TOO sign Parise. If I can keep on this thought track it might be why they invited him to the draft, show him how the whole process works and what the big picture plan is for the Devils. They probably want him to feel a big part of it and hopefully get his approval for how they are rebuilding.
Parise can get that as an actual paycheck instead.
But that still worries me because we will be gutting our depth to fuel our 2 LWs
Seems like today`s winning formula is center depth and PMDs, eh?
All I can say is this is the trend ATM, but as long as you have solid F depth throughout the lineup and good coaching/system, you should be fine. I still think it`s not impossible to win the Cup with a different cornerstone pieces. But as I`ve said, you need to have well-balanced lineup with above-average players on G/C/D/RW and of course, a bit of a luck too.
