Time to place your bids for Joe Thornton...

Bruins fan here, thrying to gauge the perceived trade value of Captain Joe. If you were GM of your team, what would you offer up....For arguments sake, let's say Joe is awarded a 7.5 mil deal for this year via arbitration.

Adrian Aucoin, Trent Hunter. Weinhandl, and a pick.

B's would probably want somebody younger and cheaper than Aucoin though, and the Isles don't really have a trade chip of that value to offer that would fit.

offer 1:

Brendan Morrison, Sopel or Malik, 1st round pick in 2005, pick of prospect from King, Bouck or Fedorov.

offer 2:

Bertuzzi and pick of prospect King, Bouck or Fedorov, plus 2nd round pick in 2005 or 2006.

not sure what the Bruins needs would be??

something centered around Brendan Morrison and Ed Jovanovski?

this way if Niedermayer really wants to play in Vancouver, they could replace Jovo with him, and upgrade Morrison to one of the league's elite. a Naslund - Thornton - Bertuzzi line could be quite devestating.

Man, this board is sharp today. Everyone of these deals seemed quite thoughout and pretty good value. Nice job.

In all honesty, I thought the offer I posted missed, primarily because the central component (Aucoin) is relatively old and expensive.

And you also want Ribeiro out of Montreal, I think you have something against good players.

I'd take Thornton with the Habs any days of the week and twice on sunday.

Personally, I wouldn't do the deal, but a proposal like that would open up negotiations.

The sabres one is interesting, but I dunno about trading to a divsion rival.

Cool thread, but the only thing Joe really wants is a longterm contract. So probably after the CBA is hammered out, MOC will offer Joe his long term contract. Until then, anything can happen.

Seems like a fair perspective to me.

The Isles would need to add a young cheap player with the same trade value as Aucoin. And, since they probably don't have that guy in the system, they probably could not come up with a competitive offer.
