I have followed hockey for 40 years and this is not the first time that the Pittsburgh connection has ended a Bruins career. Mario has never spoken out about Ulf Samuelson and his dirty play, or Kasparaitis and now he signs Cooke's checks. I am a huge hockey fan and miss seeing Sidney on the ice but if you believe in Karma this was coming. Savard was an All Star (though I will admit a whiner) and Cooke is a talented but replaceable player. Understand that he is not a good person and in the end its hard to cheer for someone like him.
Cooke doesn't deserve blame for the savard hit. that was karma. see below.
and unfortunately, there's more bad karma to come....

It's obvious by seeing Cooke in this video, on the ice, that this is where he learned that type of play was acceptable. So, really, the Bruins only have themselves to blame.
Again, HF group think will point out that while rule 48 didn't exist then, he should have been called for intent to injure. Because, well just look at it!! HE INTENDED TO INJURE SAVARD.
Other cases like Booth/Richards or Chara/Pacciorrety...no intent. Why? Well, just look! I DON'T SEE IT! Therefore, it's not there, cause I said so.
The NHL ruled no intent in the Cooke hit and was dead wrong, but ruled no intent in the Chara hit and were spot on.
This is all your opinion, correct? Or were you just being sardonic?
Doesn't every hit come with some intent to injure? That's the point of the game. I would look to make that huge hit all night long. It's beautiful.
Trust me, what happened to Savard is sad. I don't ever want to see a player hurt. Unfortunately, Cooke gets called out more than any player who does the same thing. Sad...

it is a little bizarre that matt cooke shows up on all notoriously dirty plays, even the ones he wasn't a part of. pretty sure he was on the ice for the bertuzzi hit too. still, he doesn't deserve to be the only player called out time and time again.

The Bruins publicly questioned the legitimacy of Pacioretty's injury when it was announced he could possibly return later in the playoffs, which was about as long as Savard waited before he returned from the Cooke hit. Now Savard has to retire. Must be karma!
Brad Marchand does this and Nathan Horton gets concussed a couple months later.
Must be karma!

Sorry...tongue planted firmly in cheek in that entire post. Sarcasm doesn't translate well.
Just trying to point out that, as you said, many people love to talk about Cooke's hit, but turn a blind eye to similar hits in their teams history (see YT links above). The same people can get in Cooke's head to know he wanted to take out Savard permanently, but Chara was merely a victim of circumstance.
When reading the main boards i see a lots of posts about Cooke "turtling" all the time. But has that actually ever happened?, there has to be one incident or else no one would talk like that.Just curious

Why should he? Ulf Samuelsson was a great defensive defenseman who helped Mario win 2 Stanley Cup championships.
As for Kasparitis, can anyone name a specific dirty hit he's known for? He was a hard submarine hitter during a time period where that was becoming a dying breed; he wasn't Bryan Marchment intentionally targeting other players' knees.
As if you guys buy into this crap. He's POS person who does POS things.
You can't polish a turd.
I'm no Cooke apologist, but you don't know him as a person. He's a ********* on the ice and what he did to Savard and others is unacceptable, but that doesn't make him a terrible person off the ice. Learn to separate the two.
Maybe he does charity work and stuff, but can you really accept that from someone who has intent to injure out on the ice? I bet you he takes pride in knocking Savard out for good.
I hate to break it to you, but everyone intends to injure on the ice. That's part of what makes hockey exciting. I'm not justifying Cooke's actions, because I think he's a dirtbag on the ice, but if you don't think everyone from Ovechkin, to Kesler, to Clutterbuck and Max Talbot aren't trying to make guys feel it when they hit them, you're mistaken. Landing a devastating (albeit clean) hit feels almost as good as scoring a goal, in my opinion.
And I don't think he takes pride in what he did to Savard, not at all. He's a reckless ********* on the ice, not some horrible sadist off it.

Another find example of what I was talking about.

In advance of more people from other boards coming around this way today and tomorrow for news on Crosby, we're going to close this one down for a bit before the same old bickering breaks out.
