Dennis wideman's plus/minus numbers aren't impressive. Is he truly that mad defensively or just a misleading stat?

The Caps are happy with Wideman and have no plans to trade him. So you need not worry so, where his stats are concerned.

Ryan Whitney syndrome. Great in the right situation, terrible in a bad one. Keep him on the 2nd pairing with a solid defensive guy and he can put in 22 minutes a game of solid all around hockey. Expose him the way FLA had, and he falls apart, spectacularly. That and he's inconsistent by nature. We have him on the 3rd pairing and having a capable top 4 defenseman there can really help spread the load. Also not much room for Hemsky, roster is full as it is with Eakin and Kuznetsov looking to join in short order.

If only you didn't add the first sentence you would actually have a post I wouldn't facepalm at. Whitney is a good #1 2-way dman who made basically no mistakes in basically the worst situation possible. Not exactly a fair comparison between the 2...

Nah, I think that washington is pretty happy with having more depth on the blueline for a few more years...

But edmonton does need more top4 dmen and watching hemsky feed semin on the second line would be sick

Wideman is decent but the + in the deal would have to be alot for him to garner Hemsky.

@Halpysback
Every team has room for Hemsky.

I have no interest in trading Hemsky unless its overpayment and we won't get that at the moment so I'd rather watch him rip it up with the kids....I can't believe how underated he is due to the odd injury...at least we have some tougher guys in our line-up now a days.

Plus that's stupid. This draft is packed with solid players and it's doubtful that Colorado makes the playoffs, with a potential of being a lottery pick. Not worth Hemsky, thanks.

Better still, imagine a powerplay of

Ovechkin - Backstrom - Hemsky
Semin - Green

With their entire roster coming back healthy the avs pick probably won't be a lottery pick. I'd freaking love it to be but probably not. There is 0 chance of Hemsky as he just doesn't fit under the cap so it's a total non starter. There is no salary dump that we can/would send the other way either. Just not gonna happen.

You may as well just pull the goalie out of the net and spend the extra 2 minutes trying to catch up rather than delaying the inevitable... I mean damn...

Yeah, that's why Ducks and Pens couldn't wait to get rid of him.

For what its worth, Wideman hasn't had a bad stretch with Washington just like Whitney hasn't with Edmonton so far. In that sense they're still carbon copies.

I'm fine with the idea. That way we just bring up Orlov.

Caps don't have any more roster or cap space for wingers, especially top 6 wingers. Plus, the loss of Wideman would leave a hole on our blue line.

So the right side sets up the left side? Interesting. Would be very entertaining to watch that. Would probably be the most potent PP in the last decade.

I just don't know.

Getting a Yakupov, Grigorenko, Galchenyuk, or even Murray or Ebert, hell, Filip Forsberg would do nicely, and I think that going forward they make the team more potent than Hemsky.
