Islanders-Sharks

Jason Demers

Blake Comeau

Is this a good base for a trade, or am I far off?

No but mostly because Demers shouldn't be available for trade. He's likely going to be Boyle's replacement when the time comes.

1st + I would imagine. Demers and Couture are supposed to be the next faces of the franchise, they really love him there.

Take Braun and we'll add a pick or prospect

Didn't realize he was seen as having that high of a ceiling. Figured this trade would make sense because Sharks have excessive d-depth and could use o-depth, and the Isles need a top 4 guy.

I don't think he has Boyle-potential, necessarily. But I can see him breaking 50 points a few times in his career and beyond a solid defenseman.

Sorry, Demers has a GREAT contract, is a great overall TWD, and he is up and coming. He was in my opinion arguably our 2nd best Dman at times last year - guy is a sponge right now, you can see him learning from all the other Dvets and putting it all into his game.

i remember two years ago, some sharks fans would have PAID garth-or any GM-to take demers......
one guy even said that if he saw demers on the opening night roster, he would sell his season tickets. ( probably a bunch of hot air....)
and now they all love him.
its amazing what one or two years of developmental time will do eh?

we might have an excess of defenseman, but there is no excess of puck movers - something that hurt us vs. Vancouver last year. if the group is changed, adding an offensive guy would seem more likely.

we could trade someone like Braun (lower ceiling, but NHL ready) and add from there. makes much more sense for us. technically we are not subtracting offense from our NHL group, and NYI gets a defenseman.

Heh, two years ago most Sharks fans didn't know who Demers was!

He really came out of nowhere unless you really really followed the team, and even if you knew who he was you wouldn't have guessed he'd adapt so fast.

Sorry but Isles can't give up their 1st unless something significant is coming back.

No dice, Isles need a more proven dman.

i cannot and will not argue with you buddy.

at first, i watched the kid make rookie mistakes. over-play a puck or get caught out of position from trying too join a play. and everyone wanted him dead.

now, they wont trade him to save their lives......

Sharks need to keep Vlasic and Murray for now. I wouldn't trade Demers for the Islanders' first at this stage. While there is no doubt that the Islanders pick would be more valuable than Demers, Demers will help the team win now and that pick won't.

Well, when he was making those mistakes, he was a rookie. Rational people knew going in and during the process that he was going to make those mistakes. You'll always have the irrational fools who don't have the patience to let a kid screw up and learn but most people who have seen the game enough knew he had the talent and vision to be a high quality player but he needed the experience.

Vlasic for Comeau is very fair for both sides, maybe add a pick from the Isles since defenseman hold more value.

Marleau-Thornton-Havlat
Clowe-Couture-Pavelski
Mitchell-Handzus-Comeau
McGinn-Shepperd-Desjardins

Probably the most stacked forward corps in the league.

Demers is our best PMD. He is really not on the market right now. However, I may be the minority, but I am okay with trading Vlasic. With the White signing, the Sharks actually have excessive defensive depth. I think Pickles for Comeau straight up is fair.

Lines would be:

Marleau-Thornton-Pavelski
Clowe-Couture-Havlat
Mitchell-Handzus-Comeau
McGinn-Desjardins-A. Murray

Boyle-D. Murray
Demers-Burns
Vandermeer-White
Braun

Also keeps Sheppard off the team and McGinn from third line minutes.

I wouldnt trade Comeau for Vlasic even if there was a gun to my head and Startainfection hit the nail on the head

Vlasic is just a terrible fit and if you look at his advanced stats youd blanch, he absolutely must have a puck mover for a partner or he kills you,

definitely not what we need

Which is why when they paired him with Vlasic, pickles finally started to play a bit better, he was Horrid with Wallin, on the Isles Vlasic would be really bad.
