Your prediction for the first round of the 2012 NHL draft

I know that the season is very, very young, but just for fun, what is your prediction for the teams' order of selection, and the players selected at each selection, in the first round of the 2012 draft? If you think there may be a trade/trades involved, go ahead and make a prediction on that too. This thread assumes of course that the lottery has already happened (duh), so the order of selection has been finalized.

It should be fun to see people's differing opinions, not only on what players are selected where, but where teams will be picking, and also who people think will rise and fall from where they are currently ranked.

Most certainly will not take Galchenyuk at 6th, he's just had ACL surgery and won't even play a game this year I don't think, he's going to drop in the draft quickly now. Didn't even mention the fact that he played with Yakupov last year, who is doing amazing without him this year, so what's to say Galchenyuk is all that great anyway?

Great replies guys! Though I think many of you are overly optimistic about how high the Sens will finish in the standings.

Great reply, but minor nit : Colorado doesn't have a first, they traded it to WAS, but I'm sure that's what you meant.

Hate to be such a Debby Downer here but you guys realize the main reason you want to move for Pontus Aberg is because he's playing at a level that will have him drafted in the top 10 come June, if he keeps it up.

1. Columbus: Nail Yakupov - The undisputed #1 and the only player that can bring the fans of Columbus hope

2. Winnipeg: Ryan Murray - Seeing franchise player here, Winnipeg goes with Prairie boy that the fans will identify with.

3. Calgary: Mikhail Grigorenko - They've waited Iginla's whole career for this moment.

4. Ottawa: Filip Forsberg - Sens love everything about this guy.

5. Phoenix: Alex Galchenyuk (he'll be back for the playoffs, may play in the Mem Cup) - Phoenix fills a need knowing full well how good Galchenyuk is, elite)

6. Florida: Mat Dumba - With such strong depth in the system the Panthers go for a raw game changer.

7. Edmonton: Morgan Reilly - EDM has coveted a slick blueliner for some time, they take the drafts most dynamic skater.

8. Carolina: Jacob Trouba - Looking for stability on the back end, the Hurricanes go with a safe bet.

9. Long Island: Griffin Reinhart - A piece they don't have yet and possible reward could be huge.

10. Montreal: Brenden Gaunce - In one pick the Habs just got way bigger down the middle.

I don't see any reason Ottawa can't finish between 12th and 8th in the East. I tempered my prediction because I knew that if I had them drafting 16th like I originally was going to I'd hear it from you guys. 13th is really not that much of a stretch.

Also MoO Aberg was almost draft eligible last year -- similar to Landeskog. Oddly he's not getting as much hype despite his performance so far this year in a men's league. Most scouting rankings have him rated fairly low. I'm counting on the fact that european players still tend to get underrated when they're not playing in NA for Collberg and Aberg to stay within our reach.

Really? Not inconsistent defencemen, shaky goaltending, lack of secondary scoring, or rookie inexperience?

It takes time for the news from Sweden to get into media (scouting) publications in North America...the kid sounds for real and I expect he'll be climbing significantly.

It's not out of the realm of possibility but many things in this world is possible, I could win the lottery, but it's a pretty big stretch.

There wouldn't be as much debate and difference of opinion if this was done late in the year. The whole point of posting it now is to find out where people think teams will place, as well as who they'll draft, when the dust settles.

Ive seen Aberg place twice, one vs Vaxjo and the other Skelleftea, neither game he really stood out as a top 10 pick but he really does show flashes of a strong power forward with a hefty wrister. Easily Djurgardens best forward so far.

Do we have any extra/missing picks this year? Where did the Fisher pick end up?

Nevermind...looks like we just have an extra 3rd.
