Voynov discussion

So I decided to look around for some Voynov vids. For being 5'11" 180 he is quite the feisty character.

You don't see many russian puck-moving dmen wreck people like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYTw4...ature=youtu.be

In watching his highlights he doesn't take any crap in front of the net from anyone, you push him, he punches back. He has a Mitchell-like chippiness when protecting his netminder after the whistle.

They can't keep this guy in Manchester another year.

Him>AMart.

I had a crazy dream last night that JMFJ was moved to 3rd line RW and Voinov and Martinez both made the team. Realistically that obviously won't happen but whatever. I hope that Slava makes the team. Dude has serious talent.

Ive been rooting for this kid to make the team for awhile now. I hope he puts Martinez to the test for the #6 spot. Its Martinez's to lose, but I think Voynov will make it a tough choice.

Yea...I think that guy went over to grab VV because the linesmen were pretty much letting Voinov wreck a defenseless player.

Awesome! This guy at the least needs his cup of coffee or were going to have another Bud Holloway incident. At the least trade him for something we can use.

Voynov brings more to the table than Martinez but Martinez proved he can proved in the NHL with a deep team and in the playoffs.

Martinez is WAY better defensively than Voynov, and he makes WAY better decisions with the puck. Martinez is much further ahead than Voynov.

Both A-Mart and VV need to be on our blue line this year. Davis D should be gone easily.

Doughty and Johnson are not rookies anymore. They both have playoff and Olympic experience. Scuderi, Mitchell and Greene all have experience. A-Mart should be there and VV should be there as well when Westgarth is not in the game which he really should never be anyways.

Westgarth isn't a defenseman, so I don't understand.

If you're a young player, and the Kings have you as the 7th d-man, it means they think you're done developing, and aren't going to get any better. That's not what we should be hoping for for Voynov.

I have been banging this drum so long now that my arm is about to fall off.

He is ready and has earned his spot. Either with us or someone else but he has absolutely lived up to his end of the bargain.

Love ya DavisD wish you the very best wherever you end up but you can see why we needed to move you.

He probably should prove he can play better defense and make better decisions with the puck before he leaves the AHL.

Nope! Voynov has proven himself a offensive player but still needs work on his d game. If he has a really strong camp he could make the team but my bet is he'll start in Manchester and be the first d-man called up

I am okay with moving Drewiske. If that doesn't happen though I would rather see Voynov go home for a year than trade him for less than full value.

You're right, they really don't. Can you honestly sit there and say the people picking the All-Star teams are huddled in a room debating whether or not they should select a guy who can't play good defense even though he puts up points, especially when the point of the game they're picking the players for is to have a bunch of offense?

I've been to a dozen or so Monarchs games in the past couple seasons, I can say with absolute certainty that Voynov is not very good defensively. He makes poor reads in the defensive zone. He pinches at the wrong times. He tries to make fancy plays with the puck and ends up turning it over (sounds a lot like Doughty last season, actually). And I've never seen him be anywhere near as physical as those highlight videos would suggest.

I would much rather have Martinez in the lineup than Voynov at this point.

It's going to be one or the other. Drewiske is a cheap 7th defenseman who doesn't have to play since he is what he is, and who probably won't complain about not playing. Martinez and Voynov have some upside. They won't be rotated. Should they be rotated every game? Every 5th game? What if one of them plays really well, should the other sit until whenever?
