Langkow to the Coyotes

Bob Stauffer (630 CHED) is reporting from a "pretty damn good source" (seems like it could be Feaster since he has him as a guest frequently) that Langkow is traded to the Coyotes. return not in yet. two sources now confirming.

Quote:
Dan Tencer
Stauffer's blackberry buzzing...excellent source suggests that Daymond Langkow has been traded from Calgary to Phoenix...

OilersNow
Langkow trade to Phoenix confirmed.

DarrenDreger
Langkow trade to Phoenix is pending a physical.
just spreading the news!

Interesting. Wonder what the return could be? Something minimal, I'd imagine.

I'll definitely miss Langkow in Calgary. All the best to him in Phoenix if this is true.

I wonder if his injury has slowed him down going forward.

Kind of a slap in the face after what he's been through. Oh well, I wish him luck in Phoenix.

Funny how Feaster has no problem unloading a guy who missed basically all of last year with an injury while Useless 1 and Useless 2, Hagman and Stajan, are still on the team.

Eklund is saying Lee Stempniak. Not a bad return. Wouldn't mind a 3rd or 4th too. But he could be slotted into Moss' RW spot and Moss will be playing C this year in place of Langkow.

Except that it's Eklund saying it.

Not at all surprised if this ends up to be true, just wish it was Stajan going the other way. I hope we get a draft pick being that we are already down 2.

would hope the PHX just eats the salary and gives us a low pick. But I could see Stempniak as being more likely.

I don't like this unless it is a pure cap dump. Langkow could wind up being one of our most consistent, dependable, and defensivly aware centres this year.

If this turns out to be true, Feaster obviously feels that BMo is a better choice for the team over Lanks. Both have injury concerns though. I was looking forward to see what Langkow was going to do in Calgary this year, but I understand a move had to of been made, we had too many centres.

Hagman may have struggled and underachieved last year, but he's definitely not useless.

Maybe Langkow+ for a roster upgrade?

Don't really see what we could get back that would be an upgrade.

Just spitballin'... I looked at the Coyotes roster after that and not sure there's anyone there who would be attainable for a Langkow package who would help that much. However, I wouldn't put it past Feaster to reach to make a push for the playoffs again.

Mostly a salary dump, though we likely have to take back some salary.

Phoenix wouldn't want Stajan as he has 3 years to go.

If Feaster gets Stempniak, which I doubt, he should get GM of the year.

Why? Stempniak is a marginal player, at best. I'd rather have a low pick or bust prospect coming back to clear cap space to bring in a cheap FA like Bernier.

Stempniak seems to make the most sense if we are getting a player from their roster (maybe Pyatt)

I'd rather have Langkow, I was relying on him to make Bourque play better this year

I don't even know if I really want Stempniak at all, he would be somewhat redundant in our lineup and would be probably relegated to the 3rd line. He scored 38 pts last season in his first full year with the Yotes, I do not think he would score more points than that playing on the 3rd line with the Flames. Moss is better than him IMO, and I would rather Moss get his minutes on the 2nd. If I had my choice, I would rather get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for Langkow to makeup for the one we lost with Kotalik.

We'll see what the return is, right now it is basically just Eklund spewing its Stempniak.

EDIT: I'm actually not sure where Stempniak would even play. Personally I think Hagman is also better than him.

Tangs Backlund Iggy
Moss Jokinen Bourque
Hagman Stajan Glencross
Stempniak Byron Jackman???

This isn't even including Kosto, Leblond, or Morrison.

Well, of all the things Eklund spews, I hope this one is pure ****. Not to knock on Lee but no need for him at all unless we want to ice an ex-Leafs line..

I completely agree, we have enough ex-Leafs on our lineup, no need to take on more. Stempniak is actually a decent player, not bad by any means but I just do not know where we have room for him unless we bury Hagman on the Heat. And like I said I would rather have Hags over Stempniak.

I'd take him over Hagman. Hagman turns the puck over way too much. He may put up more goals but he is a puck hog that gives the puck up whenever he tries to go end to end every play.

That being said, Calgary needs a player like Langkow more than they need a player like Stempniak. So the trade would be questionable

Maybe this frees up room for another deal? Where we do something like what Burke did with the Preds. That would be pretty great but I don't expect anything of that sort (not to mention there's not much we could take back anyways).

Byron goes to the AHL or the press box, Hagman is shot out of a cannon into the ocean, and Stempniak takes his place on the third line with Bourque and Stajan. TKO gets back on the 4th line where he belongs. BMo is a tough one. He worked so well with Iggy and Tangs, why split them up?
