Actually I take my comment back, I would be interested to see what Stempniak can bring to our bottom 6. Could work out well, his cap hit is not as high as I thought. His playmaking abilities are not bad, could be a good fit on an all TO line

Hagman-Stajan-Stempniak

C'mon this has Stanley Cup written all over it

Yet none written on the cup. This deal can't hurt, shed some space, add someone younger, his contract is also up next season. Hell, he could be flipped to a pick at the deadline to a team that needs depth.

If it is Stempniak:

This deal frees up 2.6 million, Hagman costs 3.0 to bury in the minors. So it would look like:

Tanguay (3.5) – Backlund (1.271) Iginla (7)
Glencross (2.55) – Jokinen (3) – Moss (1.3)
Bourque (3.3) – Morrison (1.25) – Stempniak (1.9)
Kostoupolous (0.917) – Stajan (3.5)– Jackman (0.55)

Extra: PL3 (0.525), Ivanans* (0.6), Byron

Sutter can put Moss at centre until BMO is healthy, then he has options

yeah this is what I was thinking. When BMo is healthy it almost makes Langkow redundent. I would rather have Langkow over Stajan, but that contract is going nowhere it seems.

Cant imagine the return is anything lofty with the doubtful future of Langkow. Even if it seems like the guy will be back fully, no team will invest crazy into a player with no ice time in a really long time. So take your even moderate return guess and cut that by half. I bet we get something like a 2nd round pick and a prospect with very little chance of seeing the NHL ice. This move might however be salary dump and maybe Feaster signs another Hannan etc.

What about conditional picks?

EDIT: Nevermind, just read the official word - it's Stempniak.

Per Dreger's Twitter "Langkow to Phx...Stempniak to Calgary. Trade pending Langkow passing physical"

They must be pretty confident he'll pass the physical with announcing Stempniak as the other guy. I wish them both well. Two guys on expiring contracts that have something to prove.

"It's never an easy conversation, [but] we're looking at ways to improve the hockey club." Feaster on Langkow waiving NTC

"We weren’t out there actively shopping Daymond but Phoenix came at us hard to acquire the player." - Feaster on the trade

I wonder who's going, either to another team or the AHL?

Tanguay-Backlund-Iginla
Glencross-Jokinen-Moss
Stempniak-Stajan-Bourque
Kostopoulus-Morrison-Jackman

Maybe swap Stajan and Bmo. Wouldn't mind seeing Nemisz where Kostco is.

Hagman will be buried.

I would like to see Byron or Bouma on the 4th line, maybe with an injury they'll get a call up hopefully.

Overall a good trade, we were super crowed down the middle but I just still don't know where he will slot into our lineup. Hagman is definitely the better offensive player of the 2. But we got younger, cheaper and got a player who doesn't have a NMC, so at the end of the day you have to like that.

I like this trade. It eases the cap situation, unloads a centreman for a winger, and makes us younger.

I love Langkow, but I was not expecting him to perform well this year. I was thinking he'd take the 4th line role. During the 09/10 season he was producing at roughly the same clip as Stempniak did last year, and then who knows how a 35 year old will do next season after missing almost an entire year.

Tanguay - Morisson - Iginla
Glencross - Jokinen - Bouque
Stempniak - Backlund - Moss (this looks like a great 2-way line)
Kosto - Stajan - Jackman
Hagman and one of Bouma/Byron/Meyer/Leblond

This trade basically ensures we have 4 solid forward lines and will once again be one of the higher scoring teams in the league.

But you never know if Hagman will show up to play, that's the problem.

Which is why Feaster should get rid of him.

Just because he hasn't gotten rid of him doesn't mean he hasn't tried. Would you trade for Hagman?

The Islanders don't operate on the basis of common sense. This is an organization that thinks this is a good idea for a third jersey:

Way off topic haha

Dear Feaster,

I apologize for telling you to go die in a fire. If you don't believe me, look below my username.

Sincerely, eating my words.

Eh, it would have been much more preferable if Feaster could have made the trade with either Stajan instead of Langkow, or instead of Stempniak, just received a pick. There's still a logjam of forwards - the Flames right now have 14 one-way contracts plus Backlund up front. If Feaster was serious about giving some of the younger kids (like Bouma, Byron or Nemisz) a chance at some NHL time, he's going to have to move some bodies out without taking on more contracts.

At the very least though, I'm just glad Feaster didn't trade another draft pick. Interestingly enough, this is probably his best trade with the Flames so far.

Of copurse you would, anyone would.

But you can't get rid of salary without taking some one.

Stajan had 3 years left, he's not going anywhere.
