Expectations for James Van Riemsdyk

What are your expectations for James Van Riemsdyk next year? I hope he breaks out and puts up 30 goals and atleast 60 points.

30 easy.
40 would be sweet
50 is unheard of (like 5% chance)

So expect 30, don't be too surprised at 40. Be surprised at 50

Giroux - PPG (25 G)
Briere - 60-70 (30 G)
vanRiemsdyk - 60~ (25-30 G)
Voracek - 60~ (25-30 G)
Hartnell - 45-55 (20 G)
Jagr - 40~ (15-20 G)
Simmonds - 30-40 (15 G)
Schenn* - 30-50~ (???)
Nodl/Read/Wellwood - 30-40 (10-15 G)

So I expect him to be our third or fourth highest scorer.

I'd be disappointed if he got less than 60. I'd expect 65-75 if he plays as hungry as he did in the playoffs.

If he consistently plays like he did in the playoffs, PPG is not outside the realm of possibility.

If he plays like he did in the playoffs with a decent regularity he will be right behind Roo in scoring this year.

My expectations as a fan are always low but I legitimately think he'll score 30-30 this year

I expect 60 points as well.

If he shows consistency, he could easily go over that.

I would say 60 pts is what he needs to produce this year to show he is progressing as an eventual impact player. If he plays somewhat inconsistent....then he will score about in the 40 to 50 pt range.

It really depends upon what role we play him in. If say we play him with Schenn on a "shut-down" line then 40-50 points is probably realistic (and a complete waste of his talents IMO). If he's played with Giroux where they still play a solid 2-way game then 60 points is probably his area. If he's put with Briere and the reigns are completely taken off and he's left to free-wheel the offense then 70+ points is within the realm of possibility.

I have to tell you all that I am truly worried that we WILL play him with Schenn on a shut-down line and no, I DON'T think that's unrealistic. We will DEFINITELY need help on our shut-down line with having just traded away our 3 best defensive forwards in Richards, Carter and Versteeg and right now, JVR is probably our best defensive forward. Just because he has top end offensive talent doesn't mean that we WON'T ask him to play a defensive role instead, we did it with Carter so it's entirely possible that we do it with JVR too. This was one of the main reasons that I personally DIDN'T want to get rid of Versteeg. I saw him as inssuance against JVR having to play as a defensive forward.

Oh dear, I think we all know where this thread is going.

I hope JvR keeps up the play from the second half of last season. He should see a lot more pp time as well, so 35-35-70 might not be out of the question, but I would be happy with 60 points as well.

With ice time and specifically PP time I think that JVR could approach 35-40 goals and 40-45 assists.

If you compare his 1st 2 seasons (36g-39p-75p) he is on par with Carter (37g-42a-79p) & Richards (21g-45a-66p) in much more limited opportunity. Carter and Richards were both on the top PP unit by there 2nd season albeit during the disasterous 06-07 season. but both of those players made decent jumps in their 3rd season and I think JVR will do the same, if not more. Especially if he plays the whole season on giroux's line.

My official prediction for JVR: 36g-41a-77p

My expectations are for him to get 60 or so points. Anywhere from 55-65. My hopes is that it is more like 75-85. I'd love to see him lead the team in goals with 40+, and I don't think that is too far out of reach, but I think he'll more likely score in the 30 goal range.

If we have a shutdown line I think it will be Talbot/Nodl- Schenn - Simmonds. I don't know if Nodl can play LW though. Having Schenn as the center of that line makes it look a bit weak though considering he's barely played any time in the AHL or NHL, and just turned 20 8 days ago.

Well I'm hoping that's the case. JVR absloutley dominated that game and in the Playoffs and I'm hoping he can carry that success into next season.
