It's a good possibility. We've never had a D-man with as much offensive fire power, and he was among the game's elite defensive players. I don't think we've had as complete of a player, that's for sure.

he is the most talented devil of all time...
he is the reason that I wear #27 in my house league games....
blanket statements?
I would think you of all people would be aware of how toxic blanket statements can be and how seldom they should ever be used when regarding topics of opinion.

Eh, it's really hard to compare goalies to skaters.
As a goalie myself I find that insulting. How can you not compare talent of goalies to skaters? They are on the team just as much as everyone else and in my opinion are the most important person on the team. Nothing compares to the pressure of being a goalie.

Actually Stevens is, he was an offensive animal prior to his time in NJ and was an all around superior defensemen that excelled at all facets of the game. Niedermayer was great, but I feel like his praise was sung after he left Jersey, while he was and is one of the best skaters I've ever seen, I feel like his reputation and legend grew after his stint here.

ah...i didn't realize..
my argument is simply- he was a great player for us, and we dont win our cups without him. thats a good reason to buy a nieds jersey and remember him fondly. but does that and that alone warrant a jersey retirement? i think not- there is another component, a character component, to getting a jersey retired (see: daneyko, who in no way had the 'skills' component). nieds in no way has that character component- from his holdout to his last minute ditch, he can't compare to 3, 4, 26, or 30. or even 18, but thats an argument for a different day.
anyway, parise is worth 6.5, max, long term.
see what i did there?

I used to have that quote taped to my monitor at work. Great stuff.
I don't know if he was the most talented all time Devil - that's debatable. Either way he deserves it in my opinion and I will be there no matter what night they do it.

In his prime he used to steal wins from other teams. He still does today, but not in the same frequency that he used to. He owns pretty much every record for his position and will probably go down as the best ever at for his position.
We can make the argument that IK17 is the most talented Devil.
Stevens had 78 points in the 93-94 season, on defense Scott Stevens and I really don't think you can debate that one. If he was on any other team, his praises would be sung louder and that's exactly what happened with Niedermayer once he left the Devils. They have tried to do it with other Devils that have left via UFA and they never lived up to the hype, only Niedermayer did.
Read what every pundit writes once someone leaves the Devils, it's always talk of being held back or the reigns being loosened. Martin and Gomez were supposed to breakouts.
If it's just character than Brylin should have his number retired on opening night. The thing is we can't really attack his character without knowing everything that happens behind closed doors with him and Lou. There's a reason Lou hasn't shown any signs of being upset with Niedmybrother.
I think Parise will get more than that just because we'll have to overpay for his UFA years...but I don't want to even think about that disaster right now
I don't understand where Parise contract talk came in. But, Parise > Kovalchuk, so on the same team, Parise's contract > Kovalchuk's contract. At least that's how it should be.

Oops - sorry - I was only responding to you directly about the quote and just chiming in on the Nieds being most talented all time Devil in general and not about your comments about Marty. I could definitely agree with your point about Marty. It's not a debate I have really thought about or care about to be honest. All I know is they were all Devils and I thank them all for the great memories.
