Pommers + sekera would actually free up cap room for us and would help signing myers and ennis actually since pommers and sekera have a combined cap hit of like 8 mil over the next 3 years. Hecht and Boyes will free up cap space for myers and ennis

Roy would probably be the best C he's ever played with. Poor guy.

At the Trade Deadline:

To CGY.

Tyler Ennis
Brad Boyes
Brayden Mcnabb
1st Round Draft Pick 2012

To BUF.

Jerome Iginla

Would this work salary wise?

I certainly think its fair value for both sides.

Boyes and Ennis combine to make about $2.1M less than Iginla.

Whether that fits under the Sabres cap depends on how far under the cap they are at the beginning of the season and how much available cap space the team has at the deadline.

That is hard to predict today.

If they dumped Kotalik and Morrisonn before the season began, I believe it would fit.

It would definitely fit salary-wise THIS season. And with Ennis off the roster it would work next season too.

That said, I would much rather ship them Stafford than Ennis, but who knows if that would be enough.

I think that package could get you someone a bit younger and who plays C. Not that I wouldn't mind having Iginla here, but that's too good of a package for him IMO.

Really a rookie of the year candidate a former first round pick and a future first round pick for an old winger at the end of his carrier is fair value. Why can't you be a GM for a team besides the Sabres.

If you want to make an honest run at the cup, you have to start thinking about now instead of future. It's a lot to give up in the longrun, but if it brings you a cup the year it happens, is it worth it?

I don't see Iginla pushing the Sabres over the hill, if things don't work out this year, then maybe it is something we should consider but for now we should just stick with what we've got.

The same old guy that scored 86 points last year, is still a physical presence, and is the exact type of player that the Sabres havent had in a looong time. He will score a PPG rate this year, bet on it, and he is a proven playoff preformer.

It may be a costly acquisition, but it fills a huge need for a star player.

Yes,

but how long will Iggy score 80 points? How long can he keep up his elite play?
1 year? 2 years?

Tyler Ennis could become anything from a solid second liner a star player. He has so much talent. And Brayden Shenn will become a physical top 4 defender with some offensive upside.

I'm not sure if I would give up that two plus a first rounder for a star player, who will regress for sure. Besides Iggy isn't a center, and we don't need anymore right wings, I guess.

This is when it becomes a question of what is more important: futures, even near futures, or the best possible Cup run at that moment?

You make deals like that at trade deadline, not at the start of the season imo.
At the moment, trading for Iggy would be a mistake.

If iggy preforms like last year then we can have a serious discussion about Iggy to the sabres for that package at trade deadline. But right now I'd rather keep Ennis, our first and McNabb.
Besides I think there would be probably other solutions available for that package.

Unless the Sabres made a trade with the Flyers that I didn't hear about, I think you mean McNabb

Garth cranked up the retard to epic proportions on this.

I would not be surprised at all if Buffalo were to trade Ville Leino to Calgary as part of an Iginla trade. Leino's six year, $4.5 million UFA contract came as a shocker to all observers. Perhaps Regier grabbed Leino as a pre-emptive strike, at a value price, when he knew that he Buffalo was not a consideration to land Brad Richards on July 1. Leino is the proverbial "ghost man on first" right now. Regehr and Ehrhoff were introduced at pressers in Buffalo. Why hasn't Leino been introduced to the people of Pegulaville?
You have to be kidding me. I've seen some REALLY dumb stuff on the internets, but this..... A player who lives in Europe and hasn't been back to the US yet, that means he's TRADE BAIT ZOMG!!!

It disgusts me that I work for my money, and he gets paid to write drivel like this.

Considering the blog site he contributes to, the adage of "birds of a feather flock together" certainly applies. But who are we to doubt someone with "inside information" and "connections"? By Garth supporting the Iginla notion, watch Eklund claim him as one of his "sources" that pushes his earlier prediction from e3 to e 4 (or whatever rankings he assigns his myths)

Assuming one of our wingers and a pick goes there, no deal. Sure it makes the center situation seem less difficult but i wouldn't do it. We HAVE to lock up Myers and Ennis for years to come

You take that deal and ship it to Ottawa for Spezza. I love Iginla but this team needs a #1 Center. Imagine Roy playing on the third line.

Vanek-Spezza-Pominville
Hecht-Leino-Stafford
Gerbe-Roy-Kassian
McCormick-Gaustad-Kaleta

Not entirely sure if this works under the cap. but I like that more than having Iginla.

Not sure of Stempnikas cap hit though...could preclude a Buffalo deal, but i think he would fill a nice role here with more offensive punch.

Its a long shot, but... ya never know.
Stempniak and offensive punch should never be mentioned in the same sentence.
