Nothing new. We did a lot of bad trades in the past, including trading away one of the best 20 D's for an always injured Whitney.
That's why we were #30 two years in a row.

So if we didn't trade away Vish 1 and a half seasons ago at the deadline are you suggesting that we would have finished better than 30th?
There's just no place on these boards for this kind of lowgrade, childish humor. <---- ....---->
(Until now).
Yes, it was childish. But was it so childish as to deserve the use of Dill Clinton, the dancing pickle? (Note: yes he is a pickle, and not - contrary to the common misconception - a zucchini or plantain...).

Would've been so much better to keep Visnovsky around and then have him go public with him wanting out.

Sorry - I should have known Dill was only reserved for really childish humor.
Otherwise they would have admitted as much nonchalantly when it occurred. It will be injured again during the regular season or at least another lower body part of some sort.
Not neccesarily.
Afterall is said & done this is Oil-Country circa 2011 and if a player on 'OUR' team so much as pissed on the toilet seat there would be a panic induced influx of blogs about it.
Unfortunately and maybe i'm overreacting a bit but Whitney is dangerously close to being put into that "Damaged Goods" category. He seems to have these reoccurring lower body injuries on an annual basis and in true Oiler fashion, right when he's playing the best hockey of his career, he gets injured (Horcoff, Hemsky, Souray etc.).
Welcome to Edmonton Yakupov, Murray or Grigorenko.

The thing with putting that title on him is apparently this high heel thing or whatever it is is something he was born with. So it is not some new thing that pops up. He had surgery to fix the one foot and then recovered fine from it. He now has had the other one fixed. As you say above he played some of the best hockey of career on one of those surgically repaired feet last season. Would that not be a positive sign?

I'm not sure that is quite accurate.
He had surgery on his second foot the year he was traded here so going into last year he should have been 100%. Or so the theory goes.
In light of what happened last year the question becomes - did all those years of struggling with the high arches and the surgeries to repair them contribute to collateral damage to his feet/tendons?
The question of how prone he could be to further injuries would seem legitimate.
I am not up to speed on his history, but doesn't heel/foot/arch problems sound a lot like the issue that Peter Forsberg suffered through? Hopefully it's not that bad but from reading this thread it popped into my mind.

My point is that for a guy coming off of a pretty serious ankle injury, any small tweak or re-aggravation is extremely concerning especially since he has fragile ankles to begin with. I'm usually not one to cry out wolf but it's hard not to be concerned about Whitney's propensity to get injured especially since he's our MVP.

Woah Woah Woah... I was with you up until that last statement.
The drunken race car driver in prison garb says hello.

Yes, I am usually on the optimistic side, but, really, minor injuries to areas where you have had major problems do throw up a lot of flags.
I wish I could be hopeful That Whitney will play any more then 40 games this year.
Whitney rolls ankle, fans plan ahead for draft lottery.
I think it's more the worry that he's now at risk of re-injuring again at any point. Because our current D, without Whitney, is hands down the worst in the league. No matter how well Dubnyk and the kids up front play, having that D for more than 1/2 the season pretty much assures us a lottery spot, imo.
Lets face it, even with a healthy Ryan Whitney were still looking up at 14 other teams in the west. He'll probably only play 40-50 games anyways......he's damaged goods and this yr will confirm it.

S7ark, I can understand that. We need Whitney, and we better hope he gets better. It could look bad. That said, if its just a rolled ankle, we shouldn't panic.
But then, there are quality posts like the one below.
