somehow this all will be attributed to the nhl life (enforcers) that they lived Boogieman, Rypien and now Belak. Repeated blows to the head over a period of time are damaging the brain and thus impacting these players to be affected by severe depression and eventually committing suicide intentionally or not. My heartfelt condolences go out to Boogaards', rypiens' and Belaks' families but for the love of god Bettman, please enforce a strict return policy with players attempting from these injuries. The NHL and players families will thank you.
RIP boogieman, ryper and belak
we'll miss you guys

It's one of the leading causes of death in Canada; on average somebody commits suicide every three hours, IIRC. That doesn't sound common to you?

You don't realize how crippling a thing like depression is, do you?

This isn't towards Wade because not everything is known yet, just in general.

This is just saddening, I feel bad, RIP Belak, one of my favorite guys, hopefully Leaf management does something to tribute him this season.

No...that's not correct, not even close. It is not in the top 10, check statscan. It is not a very common way to die, 3500 per year in Canada roughly. In Canada 267,000 people die every year. Common? Nope.

Terrible and very sad news. Wade always seemed so happy in recent interviews, I guess you really have no idea what a person is thinking.

Why do people kill themselves?

Infidelity
Financial Problems
Depression

etc.

Now, I'm just assuming and speculating here. Trying to figure out why Belak (if he actually did) would kill himself.

For all we know, Belak's financial situation wasn't very good (He didn't get paid too much during his career), and the insurance on his life was probably pretty good. Maybe in his eyes, a heroic move to make her his kids got the financial security that he believed they deserved.

Maybe his wife wasn't faithful and led him over the edge.

Maybe he WAS battling depression. Maybe he was battling drugs.

Maybe it's NONE of these. Guys, we don't KNOW why he died, but he died. There are many different reasons people die.

I'm sure his family know why better than we do.

Extremely sad news. He was a great teammate and loved by everyone he played with. Tragic that he died so young. RIP.

In 2007 (the latest i could find) suicide was the 10th leading cause of death, 7th among men.

Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Seemed to be one of the nicest and lovable guys to be around and he stood up for a number of guys over the years. I couldn't believe it when I read it- still can't.

Incredibly sad.

I loved Belak. He always had that smile and he seemed like such a cool guy.

Stuck up for his team-mates & always had hilarious sound bytes for the media.

Can't believe his gone. Just insane. I really don't know what to make of these hockey players dying recently.
