I just cannot see this happening. I've been a Belak fan since his time with the Leafs. Just hearing him on the Dean Blundell Show from time to time, watching interviews with him and just the way he carried himself.

He was supposed to be on Battle of the Blades too. I've never watched the show, but I thought he would have been hilarious on it.

I hope, really, really hope that this isn't true.

Jeff Marek has tweeted it, and he's CBC.

I think they were referring to the suicide reports as inaccurate, not the fact that he's passed away.

Very sad day.... rough year to be a hockey fan.

RIP Wade Belak

This is shocking. Just thought to myself how I just heard him on the Fan a couple of weeks ago. Very tragic. RIP.

What's not true that he's dead or that he killed himself?

It says that the suicide is not true. Not the reports of his passing.

I may be reading that wrong, but I think it is just disproving the suicide, not the death.

It's looking just about official now.

RIP Belak. One of the most humble and honest players to ever play the game. He was a true character. This is truly depressing. The NHL needs an investigation into all these "coincidences"...

So sad.

He tweeted 18 hours ago...

I'm going to take a guess, not that it matters anyway, that it was a bad mix of medication and alcohol.

Sportsnet just confirmed his passing. Condolences to his family. Very tragic. NHL will have to re examine the role of the enforcer in the game.

It had nothing to do with fighting.

He never had a concussion or a head injury in his career, as per himself.

Extremely shocked and deeply saddened.

RIP Wade Belak. Terrible news.

One of the best personalities in sports. Thanks for all the memories.

And yes, let's change the thread title. Jesus christ.

He always just seemed so....happy. I don't know if I just refuse to believe the suicide reports or he just had something very deep that he was able to hide, I don't know. I don't think we should run away with speculation yet though.

This has to be hockeys worst offseason ever...it's just so...******.
