Wade Belak reportedly found dead

http://m.lfpress.com/sports/hockey/2.../18625271.html

RIP, Wade.

Quote:
Former Toronto Maple Leafs tough guy Wade Belak was found dead in a Toronto hotel Wednesday.
The 35-year-old from Saskatoon was found in the tony 1 King West hotel and condo residence.
Belak retired in March after a long NHL career that included stops in Colorado, Calgary, Toronto, Florida and Nashville. He was recently announced as one of the ex-NHLers who would be performing on CBC's Battle of the Blades this year.

This has to be one of the saddest off-seasons ever. First Boogaard, then Rypien, now Belak.

RIP Wade...

Definitely the most NHL player deaths I have seen in one off-season.

I think it was on Gregor's show a little while ago, he had Belak on, and he sounded so upbeat about his future off the ice - sad news

The front page of the Toronto Sun website initially said suicide, but have since taken that down and now state he was found dead.

After the Pat Burns fiasco, I don't blame them.

Sad news if true.

Worst. Summer. Ever.

Belak leaves a wife and 2 kids to mourn.

God Speed, big guy.

Do you honestly believe the 'type of player' they were has anything to do with these tragic losses of life?

Because it doesn't.

Yeah, it does.

Concussions, depression and substance abuse are all strongly, strongly linked. Take a look at the last 20 years of professional wrestling.

Zero coincidence that these three players all got punched in the face for a living.

We don't have any idea what-so-ever what Belaks' cause of death was. Rypien's depression battles started when he was still a very young man & Boogie OD'ed on painkillers which were never prescribed to him for concussion related issues...it was back trouble, no?

Neither Belak nor Rypien had concussion history.

Brutal offseason of hockey player tragedies, not much more needs to be said. Very sad.

Neither of them have reported concussions. Personally, while playing hockey I have been diagnosed with two concussions. I likely have had ten, but I kept my mouth shut because I was hoping hockey would get me some where and I couldn't afford to miss any time.
