Chicago at Edmonton (temp. until Dorian2 completes his)

Apologies for the poor form, but I know many are anxious to discuss tonight's game. I personally see tonight's game as a turning point - demonstrating that the Oilers are able to maintain momentum against a top tier opponent.

The Edmonton Oilers - 7-15-2

We're on a small roll:
  • Dubnyk was the NHL's third star last week 2-0, .50 GAA, .974 SV%, and 38/39 saves
  • Oilers are 3-0, going 13-3 in goals across those three games...
  • We're now tied for 8th in the NHL on the PP 17/79 (21.5%)

Taylor Hall - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Jordan Eberle
Nail Yakupov - Sam Gagner - Ales Hemsky
Ryan Smyth - Boyd Gordon - David Perron
Jesse Joensuu - Will Acton - Luke Gazdic

Andrew Ference - Jeff Petry
Nick Schultz - Justin Schultz
Anton Belov - Philip Larsen

Devan Dubnyk

Notable omissions: Arcobello

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Chicago Blackhawks - 16-4-4

Interesting note:
  • Chicago is 29th in the NHL on the PK with 19/69 (72.5%)
  • They also take the fewest in the entire NHL at 8.1 penalty minutes per game
  • We lost 5-4 in the only other game against the Blackhawks this year on Oct 11

Patrick Sharp - Jonathan Toews - Brandon Saad
Michael Handzus - Brandon Pirri - Patrick Kane
Jeremy Morin - Andrew Shaw - Kris Versteeg
Brandon Bollig - Marcus Kruger - Ben Smith

Duncan Keith - Brent Seabrook
Johnny Oduya - Niklas Hjalmarsson
Nick Leddy - Michal Rozsival

Corey Crawford

Notable omissions: Marian Hossa (personal family matters)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Discuss!

4th straight game that he's been PBed.

Question is, who do you switch him out for? The team's played well without him.

Why does it matter? The boys are playing great without him. No need to mess with a lineup that's winning.

I'm pretty sure Hossa isn't playing due to family problems, not injury.

I have faith tonight, we usually play really well against Chicago and with our momentum, if we come out flying we can have this game

That line has been Gold for us lately

Also they are taking the 3 scoring line approach, they just roll them

He looked good there last game and, as it's been pointed out before, he'll do more with less-talented linemates than Hemsky will. Plus, Ryan Smyth has been better and Boyd Gordon is no slouch. I think it's a good spot for him right now.

You play your players that give you the best chance of winning, right? I mean... I know, I know, we're winning, but seriously, Arco gives us a better chance to win against the unabashed best team in the league. I'd just be proactive and bring Acton out and put Arco in. It's honestly not as if Acton is bringing more to the table than Arco is (faceoffs (they both do well), hits (Arco's better), scoring (that's not an argument), PK ability (they both do), PP (only Arco's competent enough)...)

I get the idea of not changing a roster because of a winning streak, but we aren't winning these games because of Will ****ing Acton. It just reeks of typical hockey superstition then letting the best players play.

Even though there's such little hope of playoffs I will not get down in this team if they continue to play well. We would have literally had to be top 25% of teams year, there's no way that was gonna happen anyway. Just cheering for the guys to finish as high in the standings as possible and show key improvements.

This game is big though because the last few wins were again poor teams. Should be interesting to see where we stand tonight against the big team. Really hope Duby plays well again and our defense doesn't look lost.

We gotta score early to get the crowd on our side.

We gotta score often to win.

I'm going to say 6-1 for Edmonton

The Catface speaks the truth.

PP (1st unit)
Eberle - Hall - Nugent Hopkins
Perron - Yakupov
PP (2nd unit)
Gagner-Smyth-Hemsky/Gordon
Schultz- ? I can't remember the second unit, to be honest

Get Arco out there. He's not going to bleed chances against (at least, that's what the track record shows), and he'll augment our already potent power play.

Yak x2, Smyth, Belov (gotta score eventually), Hall x2

Nuge with 4 assists

We have a good track record against the Blackhawks as of late... I'm hoping for a hard-fought game... I just want to see effort and limiting the awful give-aways.

Easy swap with Acton...
Much better on the dot, twice as many hits and more than twice the points.

Wouldnt mind giving the line of Joensuu-Aco-Gazdic 10mins+ more if someone gets doubleshifted for Gazdic.

Against a team like Chicago, I'd rather see our best offensive players play. I think it makes sense to switch Arco and Acton.

This could be a major part of why he has played so well...

Pros
Less minutes = More energy when he's out
Against weaker comp = He gets to fly out there

Cons
Ryan Smyth

I think I'd rather have him out there with Joensuu on the other side.

That and I don't think Acton does one thing better than Arco so I feel Arco should be out there in the 4th line role.

If anyone thinks Acton is grittier, I would agree but I also think if you said to Arco, do everything you do and increase the grit or you are back in the PB and it's a non issue.

P.s.

was starting to think we were all too nervous to make this thread

Is Bickell in tonight? Hopefully not, but didn't see him in the line up

Joensuu getting regular shifts is never a bad thing. Also gives Eakins a chance to doubleshift Hall, Perron, Yak or any other winger on the 4th line to catch CHI off guard.

Imagine suddenly throwing Yakupov out with Joensuu and Arcobello.
Then imagine suddenly throwing Yakupov out with Joensuu and Acton.

The first was our "dreamed" second line when Gagner was out, then Joensuu was out. The second looks like a nightmare.

It makes sense, but I believe in chemistry, and in this particular case, superstition.
For example, I don't like Dubnyk, but I think he should still be in net.

I agree in not messing with a winning streak. The Oilers have got a little something going, so let's see where the team can take it with the current lineup.
